LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commending Rebecca Ahart upon the occasion of her
induction into the New York State Basketball Hall of Fame on March 15,
2015

WHEREAS, It is the practice of this Legislative Body to take note of and
publicly acknowledge individuals of remarkable integrity and character
whose endeavors have enhanced the quality of education in the great
State of New York; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to honor those indi-
viduals whose exceptional coaching accomplishments and generous volun-
tary leadership captivated the hearts and minds of their community; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to commend
Rebecca Ahart upon the occasion of her induction into the New York State
Basketball Hall of Fame, at a ceremony to be held in her honor on
Sunday, March 15, 2015, at the Glens Falls Civic Center, Glens Falls,
New York; and
WHEREAS, Rebecca Ahart, affectionately known as Becky, has been coach-
ing basketball for over 29 years; she compiled an impressive record of
271-209 for a winning average of .604; and
WHEREAS, For 24 years, Becky Ahart was the Head Coach of the Roscoe
Central School's Varsity Girls Basketball Team, and for five years, she
coached the Roscoe Junior Varsity Team; in addition, she coached combi-
nation teams with both Livingston Manor Central School from 2010-2011,
and Downsville Central School from 2013-2014; and
WHEREAS, Becky Ahart's stellar coaching record includes four Section
IX Class D titles, five league/division titles, 17 sectional tournament
appearances, and nine section IX Championship games; and
WHEREAS, From 1999-2003, Becky Ahart led her team to four consecutive
league Championships and three Section IX titles; during that time, her
teams compiled an outstanding 73-17 record; furthermore, during the
2010-2011 season, the combined team of Livingston Manor/Roscoe captured
the OCIAA Division VI Championship; and
WHEREAS, A highlight of Becky Ahart's career was having the opportu-
nity to coach all four of her daughters as well as her oldest grand-
daughter; and
WHEREAS, Throughout her illustrious coaching career, Becky Ahart has
made numerous contributions to basketball; she is both a long time
member and supporter of the Basketball Coaches Association of New York
(BCANY), and has served on the Section IX committee for 19 years; and
WHEREAS, Becky Ahart has also been the Head Coach/Organizer of several
Amateur Athletic Union (AAU) girls basketball teams, including the Cats-
kill Mountain AAU team, the Sullivan Shooters, and The Sullivan Sting;
in this role, she earned the respect and admiration of players from
other schools; and
WHEREAS, Furthermore, Becky Ahart was the Coach at both the Soddy and
Tom Mirabito's Golden Valley and West Chester University of Pennsylvania
Basketball Camps; she organized and operated a basketball clinic and
coached Sullivan County Community College and Liberty summer basketball
leagues; and
WHEREAS, Becky Ahart has also served many years as the Roscoe Varsity
and Junior Varsity basketball scorekeeper, and organized both three-on-
three basketball tournaments, as well as a Coaches vs. Cancer tourna-
ment; and
WHEREAS, From 2007-2008, Becky Ahart coached modified girls basketball
teams and worked with Saturday Youth Program teams; in addition, she

coaches softball, cross country, and cheerleading at Roscoe Central
School; and
WHEREAS, Becky Ahart has been honored with several awards including
the 1990 Cable 6 Girls Basketball Coach of the Year, 2001 BCANY Section
IX Coach of the Year, 2011 BCANY Section IX Class D Girls Coach of the
Year, the Western Sullivan League Service Award, and the OCIAA Jim Ross
Service Award; and
WHEREAS, Rebecca Ahart has clearly had an enduring impact on the youth
of Roscoe, New York, as well as on the community-at-large, and accord-
ingly merits recognition and applause for her impressive dedication to
others; and
WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to commend the
efforts of those individuals who work to support our proud tradition of
public education by providing their skills and talents to our students
and our schools; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend Rebecca Ahart upon the occasion of her induction into the New
York State Basketball Hall of Fame on March 15, 2015; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Rebecca Ahart.
