LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION memorializing Governor Andrew M. Cuomo to
proclaim May as High Blood Pressure Education Month in the State of New
York

WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to recognize official
weeks that are set aside to increase awareness of serious health issues
that affect the lives of citizens of New York State; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to memorial-
ize Governor Andrew M. Cuomo to proclaim May as High Blood Pressure
Education Month in the State of New York, in conjunction with the obser-
vance of National High Blood Pressure Education Month; and
WHEREAS, National High Blood Pressure Education Month marks the kick-
off of high blood pressure prevention and control activities for the
year; and
WHEREAS, The National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute (NHLBI) launched
its first Month campaign in May of 1974; approximately 100 national
organizations cooperated in the campaign and more than 200 organizations
coordinated activities in their communities during the month; and
WHEREAS, NHLBI invites community groups, civic and faith-based organ-
izations, hospital outreach programs, public health departments, and
workplaces to renew activities to prevent and control high blood pres-
sure; and
WHEREAS, It is imperative that there be greater awareness of this
serious health condition, and more must be done to increase activity at
the local, State and national levels; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
memorialize Governor Andrew M. Cuomo to proclaim May as High Blood Pres-
sure Education Month in the State of New York; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to The Honorable Andrew M. Cuomo, Governor of the State of New
York.
