LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Nicholas Montoro upon the occasion of
his designation as recipient of the Florence Cohen Memorial Youth Award
by the American Red Cross, Greater New York Region
WHEREAS, It is the practice of this Legislative Body to call attention
to the dedicated efforts of those individuals from across the State of
New York who volunteer their time and energies in service to the commu-
nity; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
Nicholas Montoro upon the occasion of his designation as recipient of
the Florence Cohen Memorial Youth Award by the American Red Cross,
Greater New York Region; and
WHEREAS, Volunteerism is an essential element of all societies; it
provides a way in which the human values of community, caring and serv-
ing can be sustained and strengthened; and
WHEREAS, Nicholas Montoro, a Syosset High School senior with a
penchant for volunteerism, was recognized with this prestigious award
for exemplifying the true nature of volunteerism; he was officially
honored in March of 2016, at a Red Cross Recognition event held at Crest
Hollow Country Club, in Woodbury, New York; and
WHEREAS, A Long Island Red Cross youth member, Nicholas Montoro cred-
its his father, Salvatore, both for inspiring him to volunteer with the
Red Cross when he was in the 8th grade and for his efforts since then;
and
WHEREAS, Nicholas Montoro and his father have helped many families in
need, especially after Superstorm Sandy in October of 2012; together
they worked to organize shelters for local families whose homes were
damaged including many who gathered at Nassau Memorial Veterans Coliseum
to have a warm place to stay and a roof over their heads; and
WHEREAS, This remarkable young man is also a member of the Syosset
High School's Italian Club as well as the Interact Club; and
WHEREAS, Volunteerism promotes family and community solidarity; most
importantly, people who volunteer their time in civic and charitable
endeavors inspire others to the call of volunteerism; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that those who
enhance the well-being and vitality of their community and have shown a
long and sustained commitment to excellence certainly have earned the
recognition and applause of all the citizens of this great Empire State;
now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Nicholas Montoro upon the occasion of his designation as recipient
of the Florence Cohen Memorial Youth Award by the American Red Cross,
Greater New York Region; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Nicholas Montoro.
