LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION congratulating David Charles Wirth upon the occa-
sion of receiving the distinguished rank of Eagle Scout, the most pres-
tigious of Scouting honors, on May 22, 2016
WHEREAS, David Charles Wirth, through his diligence and rigorous
efforts, has achieved Scouting's highest and most prestigious rank,
Eagle Scout; the Eagle Court of Honor ceremony will be held on Sunday,
May 22, 2016, at the Nathaniel Adams Blanchard American Legion Post No.
1040, Delmar, New York; and
WHEREAS, For 12 years, David Charles Wirth, the son of Carl D. and Mia
E. Wirth, has been a vital member of Boy Scouts of America Troop 58,
Elsmere, New York; and
WHEREAS, In addition to earning the coveted Eagle Scout, David Charles
Wirth has been the recipient of numerous awards and accolades including
the 2007 World Conservation Award, the 2009 Super Scout, and the 2010 J.
Harold Williams Award for Brotherhood; and
WHEREAS, Throughout his scouting career, David Charles Wirth has held
various leadership positions such as Assistant Patrol Leader, Quarter-
master, and Order of the Arrow Troop Representative; he is also a member
of the Order of the Arrow and successfully completed the Venturing
Program; and
WHEREAS, As a Scout, David Charles Wirth enjoyed hiking Appalachian
Trail sections, and exploring Sea Base in Florida, as well as historic
sites in Gettysburg, Philadelphia and Valley Forge, Pennsylvania; he has
attended numerous Annual Camporees, Camp Boyhaven, the 2010 National
Jamboree, and Yawgoog Summer Camp since 2009; and
WHEREAS, A senior at Bethlehem Central High School, David Charles
Wirth has participated in the S.W.A.T. program and the Garden Club; in
an effort to raise funds for his school, he enthusiastically sells
Sydney's Cycling Sauce; and
WHEREAS, After graduation, David Charles Wirth plans on attending a
cooking school, and strives to hold a career in the culinary field; and
WHEREAS, When he is not at school or at a Boy Scout activity, David
Charles Wirth is a competitive rower with the Albany Rowing Club and
runs in the Ice Breaker Challenge 5K Race; in 2013, he volunteered his
time and energy on a mission trip to Nicaragua where he helped refurbish
Centro Ecular Life Link, a school in Ciudad Sandino; and
WHEREAS, America has achieved her greatest heights of glory through
the dedication, determination and tireless efforts of the outstanding
citizens of this Nation; and
WHEREAS, It is only with the continued diligence and devotion of our
youth, tomorrow's leaders, that America will maintain her glory; and
WHEREAS, The Boy Scouts of America and its members are dedicated to
the development of character and leadership in the youth of this Nation;
and
WHEREAS, The highest achievement of leadership in Scouting, earned by
only five percent of all Boy Scouts, is the distinguished rank of Eagle
Scout; and
WHEREAS, This outstanding young man has been involved in Scouting for
many years, has lived up to Scouting's ideals and has attained all of
the necessary achievements, including completion of a community service
project, which was successfully planned, developed and executed; and
WHEREAS, For his project, David Charles Wirth constructed a new bridge
at the Pine Hollow Arboretum, a non-profit nature preserve in Slinger-
lands, New York; the bridge will allow visitors to explore more of the
Arboretum property and allow them to view a larger variety of trees; and
WHEREAS, David Charles Wirth's perseverance in rising through the
ranks to Eagle Scout is a strong indication of his ability to master
difficult tasks; his accomplishment will enable him to emerge as a lead-
er, fully equipped to meet the challenges of today's complex society;
and
WHEREAS, This new Eagle Scout is a credit to his family, his school,
his community, his State and his Nation, and no doubt his future will be
filled with accomplishments of equal importance; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations, in
recognition of the significance of this meritorious achievement, to
congratulate and honor David Charles Wirth on achieving the rank of
Eagle Scout; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to David Charles Wirth.
