LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION congratulating Nicholas Michael Cathers upon the
occasion of receiving the distinguished rank of Eagle Scout, the most
prestigious of Scouting honors, on May 22, 2016

WHEREAS, Nicholas Michael Cathers, through his diligence and rigorous
efforts, has achieved Scouting's highest and most prestigious rank,
Eagle Scout; the Eagle Court of Honor ceremony will be held on Sunday,
May 22, 2016, at the Nathaniel Adams Blanchard American Legion Post No.
1040 in Delmar, New York; and
WHEREAS, Nicholas Michael Cathers, the son of Michael Cathers and
Carolyn Kearns, is a member of Boy Scouts of America Troop 58, Twin
Rivers Council in Elsmere, New York; and
WHEREAS, Since joining Troop 58 seven years ago, Nicholas Michael
Cathers has earned the ranks of Patrol Leader, Guide, Junior Assistant
Scoutmaster, Assistant Senior Patrol Leader and Webmaster; his achieve-
ments also include 37 Merit Badges, Order of The Arrow and Venture
Scout; and
WHEREAS, In addition, Nicholas Michael Cathers' journey in Scouting
involved traveling to the Northern Tier, Sea Base and Philmont Ranch,
and participating in annual canoe trips, the annual Klondike Derby and
Scout Camp Yawgoog in Rhode Island; and
WHEREAS, As a Senior attending Bethlehem High School in Delmar, New
York, Nicholas Michael Cathers has been active in the Table Top Games
Club, Aikido and outdoorsmanship as well as community service; he plans
to explore business information systems in college at Rochester Insti-
tute of Technology in Rochester, New York; and
WHEREAS, America has achieved her greatest heights of glory through
the dedication, determination and tireless efforts of the outstanding
citizens of this Nation; and
WHEREAS, It is only with the continued diligence and devotion of our
youth, tomorrow's leaders, that America will maintain her glory; and
WHEREAS, The Boy Scouts of America and its members are dedicated to
the development of character and leadership in the youth of this Nation;
and
WHEREAS, The highest achievement of leadership in Scouting, earned by
only five percent of all Boy Scouts, is the distinguished rank of Eagle
Scout; and
WHEREAS, This outstanding young man has been involved in Scouting for
many years, has lived up to Scouting's ideals and has attained all of
the necessary achievements, including completion of a community service
project, which was successfully planned, developed and executed; and
WHEREAS, For his project, Nicholas Michael Cathers developed, organ-
ized and conducted interviews of a dozen area veterans on electronic
media in order to collect and preserve their personal accounts of their
military service; and
WHEREAS, Nicholas Michael Cathers forwarded the interviews and
supporting paperwork to the Library of Congress for "The Veterans Histo-
ry Project of the American Folklife Center" where these first-hand
accounts will be accessible to future generations to better understand
the realities of war; and
WHEREAS, Locally, Nicholas Michael Cathers will be presenting the
veterans' personal stories to American Legion Post No. 1040 and the
local library where they will be available to local residents and
student researchers; and
WHEREAS, Nicholas Michael Cathers' perseverance in rising through the
ranks to Eagle Scout is a strong indication of his ability to master
difficult tasks; his accomplishment will enable him to emerge as a lead-

er, fully equipped to meet the challenges of today's complex society;
and
WHEREAS, This new Eagle Scout is a credit to his family, his school,
his community, his State and his Nation, and no doubt his future will be
filled with accomplishments of equal importance; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations, in
recognition of the significance of this meritorious achievement, to
congratulate and honor Nicholas Michael Cathers on achieving the rank of
Eagle Scout; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Nicholas Michael Cathers.
