LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Kathleen Tatiana Keely Braico, MD FAAP
upon the occasion of her designation as recipient of the 2016 Liberty
Bell Award by the Warren County Bar Association on May 5, 2016

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize and pay
tribute to those individuals within the medical field who distinguish
themselves through professional excellence and who have made significant
contributions to the quality of life of citizens in the State of New
York; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Dr.
Kathleen Braico upon the occasion of her designation as recipient of the
2016 Liberty Bell Award by the Warren County Bar Association to be cele-
brated on Thursday, May 5, 2016; and
WHEREAS, The Liberty Bell Award, given each year by local bar associ-
ations, honors exemplary citizens within the local community; the award
recognizes outstanding service performed by a non-lawyer citizen who
volunteers their time and efforts to serve the community; and
WHEREAS, Such service may include activities which promote a better
understanding of America's form of government, stimulating a deeper
sense of individual responsibility to the end that citizens recognize
their duties as well as their rights; and
WHEREAS, In 1970, Kathleen Braico earned her Bachelor's degree in
Biology from the State University of New York (SUNY) at Binghamton; four
years later, she received her Doctor of Medicine from SUNY Buffalo; and
WHEREAS, Between 1974 and 1977, Dr. Kathleen Braico completed her
internship in Pediatrics at the Children's Hospital of Buffalo, her
residency in Pediatrics, and a Teaching Fellowship; in addition, she
served as the Chief Resident in the Outpatient Department from
1977-1978; and
WHEREAS, A Board Certified Pediatrician, Dr. Kathleen Braico is also a
Fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics, a member of the AAP
Section on International Child Health and the Alpha Omega Alpha Medical
Honor Society; and
WHEREAS, Currently, Dr. Kathleen Braico is certified in Neonatal
Resuscitation Program (NRP), Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS), and
Advanced Cardiac Life Support; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Kathleen Braico began her distinguished medical career as
an Attending Physician at Glens Falls Hospital, a title she held from
1978-2011; today, she continues to serve as the Hospital's Honorary
Physician, and is a member of the Glens Falls Hospital Pediatric Emer-
gency Response Team for disaster planning; and
WHEREAS, During this time, Dr. Kathleen Braico also co-founded Adiron-
dack Pediatrics, P.C., a general pediatric practice in upstate New York,
a position from which she retired in 2011; and
WHEREAS, Since 1993, Dr. Kathleen Braico has served as the Medical
Director of Double H Ranch, a Paul Newman Serious Fun Children's Network
Camp for children with serious illnesses in Lake Luzerne, New York; and
WHEREAS, For almost 20 years, this dedicated physician has made annual
medical missions to Guatemala; in 2010 and 2012 she also provided imper-
ative medical care to citizens of Haiti, as well as Jamaica in 2012; and
WHEREAS, From 2006-2008, Dr. Kathleen Braico held the position of
Medical Consultant to the Association of Hole in the Wall (HITW) Camps
(now SCFN), and instructed courses in Helping Babies Breathe (HBB) and
Essential Care for Every Baby (ECEB) at Kumudini Hospital and Women's
Medical College, Mirzapur, Bangladesh, in January of 2015; and

WHEREAS, For numerous years, Dr. Kathleen Braico has provided her
skills and talents to numerous medical students; she mentored 3rd year
medical students during their outpatient pediatric rotation at Albany
Medical College, Albany, New York, and was a Regional Instructor for
Neonatal Resuscitation from 1989-2016; and
WHEREAS, Today, she continues to serve as an Instructor for Pediatric
Advanced Life Support, and a mentor for (HBB) and (ECEB); she also
taught these essential pediatric courses to providers and instructors in
Guatemala, Hand Up for Haiti personnel, and to staff at Kumudini Hospi-
tal, Bangladesh; and
WHEREAS, Well-spoken and respected, Dr. Kathleen Braico has shared her
experiences and knowledge with her peers at HITW Camps medical confer-
ences in September of 2002, and January of 2005 and 2007; she also
planned and coordinated these conferences in January of 2007 and April
of 2008; and
WHEREAS, Moreover, in 1998, Dr. Kathleen Braico co-presented the Humor
Conference, consulted in the development of the Jordan River Village, a
HITW Camp in Israel in 2004 and 2011, gave the 2005 Commencement Address
at Adirondack Community College, and spoke about Medical and Physiolog-
ical Effects of Eating Disorders in 2006; and
WHEREAS, An accomplished author, Dr. Kathleen Braico has written
numerous publications on various subjects such as LAETRILE INTOXICATION,
REPORT OF A FATAL CASE, FATAL CYANIDE POISONING: ACCIDENTAL INGESTION
OF AMYGDALIN, MEGOCODE GUATEMALA, SISTER IRMA, and A SMALL BEGINNING, A
WORLD OF DIFFERENCE; and
WHEREAS, For her outstanding medical work in not only New York State,
but the world, Dr. Kathleen Braico has been the recipient of numerous
awards and accolades including the 1998 Humor Conference "Humor in
Action" Award for her devoted work at Double H Ranch, the 2002 Gem of a
Doc Award from the Warren County Medical Society, the 2004 Citizen of
the Year Award by Rotary Club, 2006 Excellence in the Field of Education
Award by the South American Spanish Association of Albany, New York, and
the 2006 Women of Distinction Award by the Girl Scouts of the Adirondack
Council, as well as the 2010 Ruby Award by Soroptomists Club Glens
Falls, New York; and
WHEREAS, A true philanthropist, Dr. Kathleen Braico was a member of
the Board of Directors Community Workshop, Inc., and the Glens Falls
Medical Mission, Project Guatemala, where she also served as President;
from 1997-1999, she was the President BOD of Community Workshop, Inc.;
and
WHEREAS, Since 2007, Dr. Kathleen Braico has participated on the

Amorak Youth Services Board of Directors and holds the position of
Recording Secretary; for the last five years, she has been an active
volunteer of the Red Cross; and
WHEREAS, With her throughout have been her loving husband, her two
devoted children, and her two treasured grandchildren, all of whom feel
privileged to be a part of her life and rejoice in her accomplishments;
and
WHEREAS, When Dr. Kathleen Braico is not working or assisting someone,
she enjoys practicing Aikido and yoga, and loves outdoor recreational
activities such as canoeing, hiking, cross-country skiing and snowshoe-
ing; and
WHEREAS, Rare indeed is the impressive dedication shown by an individ-
ual for the benefit of others which this remarkable woman has displayed
throughout her life; and
WHEREAS, As a leader in her profession, Dr. Kathleen Braico has proven
herself to be a great asset to medicine and to the health and welfare of

the citizens of the State of New York, and to people across the globe;
now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Kathleen Tatiana Keely Braico, MD FAAP upon the occasion of her
designation as recipient of the 2016 Liberty Bell Award by the Warren
County Bar Association; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Kathleen Tatiana Keely Braico, MD FAAP.
