LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commending Kate Hogan upon the occasion of her
designation for special recognition by the Twin Rivers Council, Boy
Scouts of America on May 11, 2016

WHEREAS, Individuals who give of their time and energies and serve the
best interests of their communities are an asset beyond remuneration and
cannot be sufficiently extolled; and
WHEREAS, Kate Hogan has given not only of her time and energies but
also of her competence, intelligence and leadership and consequently has
been designated for special honor; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to commend Kate Hogan
upon the occasion of her designation for special recognition by the Twin
Rivers Council, Boy Scouts of America to be celebrated at its 2016
Wakpominee Good Scout Dinner held on Wednesday, May 11, 2016, at the
Great Escape Lodge in Queensbury, New York; and
WHEREAS, Kate Hogan earned her Juris Doctor at Washington and Lee
University Law School, and began her legal career as an Assistant
District Attorney in Brooklyn, New York, where she specialized in prose-
cuting serious felony cases; and
WHEREAS, After entering private practice for a short time, Kate Hogan
accepted a position with the New York Prosecutors Training Institute to
train prosecutors statewide on handling death penalty cases; and
WHEREAS, In 2001, Kate Hogan was elected Warren County District Attor-
ney where she has worked tirelessly to serve the citizens of her commu-
nity and has tried a number of high profile cases; and
WHEREAS, During her illustrious tenure, District Attorney Kate Hogan
accomplished numerous feats including the creation of a child advocacy
center and the implementation of the Warren County Treatment Court;
currently, she is serving her fourth term in office; and
WHEREAS, This esteemed woman also served as President of the New York
District Attorneys Association from 2009 to 2010, and successfully advo-
cated for the passage of Leandra's Law, Jack Shea's Law and the imple-
mentation of a strangulation statute; and
WHEREAS, In addition, Kate Hogan held the title of Chairman of the
Board of Directors of the District Attorneys Association, and is now a
vital part of its executive committee; she also served on Judge
Lippman's Justice Task Force, Chief Judge Kaye's Commission on the Jury
and the New York State Arson Board; and
WHEREAS, Kate Hogan has been called upon to contribute her time and
talents to countless civic and legal endeavors and has always given of
herself unstintingly; she currently serves as Chairperson for the New
York State Law Enforcement Council, and is a member of the Sentencing
Commission and the Children's Justice Task Force; and
WHEREAS, In July of 2013, Kate Hogan was appointed by the Governor to
serve on the Moreland Commission which conducted an investigation that
resulted in multiple convictions for systemic corruption in state
government; and
WHEREAS, The recipient of numerous honors for her exceptional service,
Kate Hogan has received awards from the United States Attorney's Office
for the Northern District of New York, and the Spirit of Justice Award,
for her work on behalf of victims of crime and from the Kings County
District Attorney's Alumni Association as their most Distinguished Alum-
na; and
WHEREAS, Furthermore, Kate Hogan was presented with the 2012 Prosecu-
tor of the Year, Executive Leadership Award by the New York Prosecutors
Training Institute and was named 2016 Prosecutor of the Year by the New
York State Bar; and

WHEREAS, With her throughout have been her husband, Kevin Bruen, and
their three children, Kit, Bridget and Patrick, all of whom feel privi-
leged to be a part of her life and rejoice in her achievements; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when outstand-
ing individuals of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to
our attention, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the citi-
zens of this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend Kate Hogan upon the occasion of her designation for special
recognition by the Twin Rivers Council, Boy Scouts of America; and be it
further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Kate Hogan.
