LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION recognizing Girl Scout Troop No. 1285 for their
public service to the Franklin Square Community

WHEREAS, Girl Scouting has cultivated in our Nation's young people the
goals of building solid values of sisterhood and the importance of work-
ing with others, stimulating both mind and body, instilling pride, and
encouraging community service and success; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to recognize
Girl Scout Troop No. 1285 for their public service to the Franklin
Square Community; and
WHEREAS, Volunteerism is an essential element of all societies; it
provides a way in which the human values of community, caring and serv-
ing can be sustained and strengthened; and
WHEREAS, In addition, volunteerism promotes family and community soli-
darity; most importantly, people who volunteer their time in civic and
charitable endeavors inspire others to the call of volunteerism; and
WHEREAS, The enthusiastic members of Girl Scout Troop No. 1285 set out
to improve their community through their "Adopt a Pike" project; and
WHEREAS, The fifth graders first surveyed and identified sections of
Hempstead Turnpike in Franklin Square which needed improvement; the
girls then removed litter, debris and weeds from the area, making it a
more pleasant place to visit; and
WHEREAS, Through their hard work, diligence and steadfast commitment,
the Girl Scouts have motivated and energized the community to join them
in improving Hempstead Turnpike, and thereby, attracting residents and
vendors to its shops, eateries, and other establishments; and
WHEREAS, America has achieved her greatest heights of glory through
the dedication, determination and tireless efforts of the Girl Scouts of
this Nation; and
WHEREAS, It is only with the continued diligence and devotion of our
youth, tomorrow's leaders, that America will maintain her glory; and
WHEREAS, The Girls Scouts of Troop No. 1285 are a credit to their
family, their school, their community, their State and their Nation, and
no doubt their future will be filled with accomplishments of equal
importance; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
recognize Girl Scout Troop No. 1285 for their public service to the
