LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Gloria Troy upon the occasion of her
selection as the 2016 Senior Citizen of the Year by the Putnam County
Office for Senior Resources on May 6, 2016
WHEREAS, Senior citizens bring a wealth of experience and knowledge to
the increasingly active roles they play in today's society; their past
contributions and future participation are a vital part of, and valuable
asset to, the fabric of community life and activity; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Gloria Troy
upon the occasion of her selection as the 2016 Senior Citizen of the
Year by the Putnam County Office for Senior Resources to be celebrated
at an event on Friday, May 6, 2016, in recognition of her outstanding
contributions to her community through her valuable and much appreciated
volunteer work; and
WHEREAS, Born in Yonkers, New York, Gloria Troy married and raised
five children; during her children's early years, she was actively
involved with their Girl Scout and Cub Scout troops; in 1996, the family
moved to Mahopac, New York; and
WHEREAS, In 1976, Gloria Troy began working as a bookkeeper for READ-
ERS DIGEST and remained in that position until her retirement in 1991;
immediately following her retirement, she joined the William Koehler
Senior Center in Mahopac to learn quilting and has been volunteering at
the Center ever since; and
WHEREAS, Gloria Troy enjoyed a successful career and devoted herself
to making a loving home for her family, and has always been a passionate
volunteer, generously dedicating her time; and
WHEREAS, Today, Gloria Troy volunteers at the Senior Center where she
serves as the Activity Leader for the RSVP Sewing Group which sews
cancer pads for patients; she also heads up the knitting group which
knits baby hats and shawls for wheelchair patients; and
WHEREAS, Moreover, Gloria Troy's compassion toward her neighbors and
community spirit can be seen when she calls BINGO at the Senior Center,
volunteers her time at the Mahopac Library and the Eagle Eye II Thrift
Store, visits nursing homes as an RSVP Wellness Ambassador, helps raise
funds as a bell ringer for Salvation Army and walks the RSVP Golden Mile
for the March of Dimes; and
WHEREAS, With her throughout have been her five children, 15 grand-
children, and one great-grandchild, all of whom feel privileged to be
part of her life and rejoice in her achievements; and
WHEREAS, A true asset to society, Gloria Troy's distinguished record
merits the recognition and respectful tribute of this Legislative Body;
now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Gloria Troy upon the occasion of her selection as the 2016 Senior
Citizen of the Year by the Putnam County Office for Senior Resources;
and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Gloria Troy.
