LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION congratulating Dr. and Mrs. Stephen Spink upon
the occasion of celebrating their 70th Wedding Anniversary

WHEREAS, It is the intent of this Legislative Body to commemorate and
recognize certain milestones celebrated by citizens of this great Nation
and Empire State; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to congratu-
late Dr. and Mrs. Stephen Spink upon the occasion of celebrating their
70th Wedding Anniversary; and
WHEREAS, Dr. and Mrs. Stephen Spink were married at Victory Center, in
Chicago, Illinois, on March 2, 1946; the couple are celebrating their
70th Wedding Anniversary with a party held in their honor, surrounded by
family and friends, on Saturday, May 28, 2016, at the Premier Banquet
Center in Olean, New York; and
WHEREAS, Barbara was born in Buffalo, New York, but lived in Castile
and Stephen was raised in Rochester, New York; the couple first met as
teens at a church camp; and
WHEREAS, Both Dr. and Mrs. Stephen Spink graduated high school; Steph-
en enlisted in the United States Navy and was sent to Sampson Naval Base
on Seneca Lake, where he contracted Scarlett Fever and spent three weeks
recovering in the hospital; this was where his passion for medicine
began and he was able to observe the workings of a hospital, which
sparked his interest; and
WHEREAS, Barbara Spink attended the Radio and Phone school in Kansas
City, Missouri; following her training, she worked for the Pennsylvania
Airlines in Detroit, Michigan; Stephen caught a train to visit her while
on leave and he proposed to her at the railroad station; shortly after
they were married; and
WHEREAS, Stephen Spink completed his military service and the couple
moved to Denton, Texas, where he began coursework at North Texas State
for a medical career; later on, he would transfer to the University of
Buffalo and complete his undergraduate and medical degrees; and
WHEREAS, Dr. and Mrs. Stephen Spink are the proud parents of 12 chil-
dren, Paul, Doris, Steven, Katherine, Marion, Janet, Kenneth, David,
Helen, Jonathan, Esther and Sharon, and the loving grandparents of more
than 50 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren; and
WHEREAS, This loving couple has called Belfast, New York, their home
since 1959; Dr. Stephen Spink was beloved amongst all of his patients
through spending many hours at the hospital or making personal house
calls and deliveries; Barbara was always by his side, assisting him in
the office and raising their children; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Stephen Spink served as the school doctor and selflessly
served on the school board; Barbara Spink was extremely dedicated to her
community by providing her time and talent as an organist for the First
Baptist Church in Belfast; and
WHEREAS, Dr. and Mrs. Stephen Spink always made time to travel the
world together and attend live events, bringing them joy and happiness;
and
WHEREAS, This beloved couple has experienced the incredible joys char-
acteristic of those with the dedication and devotion to savor a full
life together; their marriage has inspired the lives of many friends and
family members; and
WHEREAS, What Dr. and Mrs. Stephen Spink are celebrating is truly
unique and special with the secret of always supporting one another and
believing that through thick and thin their unshakable faith, persever-
ance, and family have kept them strong; and

WHEREAS, It is the intent of this Legislative Body to publicly recog-
nize and honor the lives of beloved citizens who have reached a remark-
able milestone and who have witnessed and celebrated the innovations,
cultural developments, and awesome achievements of this country during
the last century; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
congratulate Dr. and Mrs. Stephen Spink upon the occasion of celebrating
their 70th Wedding Anniversary; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Dr. and Mrs. Stephen Spink.
