LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commending Joe and Fran Wolfe upon the occasion
of being named the 2015 Citizens of the Year by the Noonday Club on May
24, 2016
WHEREAS, It is incumbent upon the people of the State of New York to
recognize and acknowledge those within our midst who have made signif-
icant contributions to the quality of life therein; and
WHEREAS, Joe and Fran Wolfe have given not only of their time and
energies but also of their competence, intelligence and leadership and
consequently have been designated for special recognition; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to commend
Joe and Fran Wolfe upon the occasion of being named the 2015 Citizens of
the Year by the Noonday Club, to be celebrated on Tuesday, May 24, 2016,
at the White Wolf Restaurant in Napanoch, New York; and
WHEREAS, Founded in 1923, the Noonday Club is a community service-
based organization composed of local business people and conscientious
citizens who sponsor events and fundraisers to support local charities,
seniors and students; and
WHEREAS, Vital members of the Ellenville/Wawarsing, New York, communi-
ty for almost 40 years, Joe and Fran are well-known for their generous
spirit and philanthropic natures; and
WHEREAS, Fran Wolfe has been an enthusiastic volunteer for numerous
organizations such as the Family of Ellenville, the Community Education
Program, the Shadowland Theatre, the Ellenville Revolving Land Fund, as
well as St. Mary and St. Andrew Catholic Church; and
WHEREAS, Furthermore, Fran Wolfe has served as Secretary of the Ellen-
ville PTO and President of the Shawangunk Garden Club; she was also the
first woman elected to the title of President of the Ellenville Noonday
Club where she participated on its Citizen of the Year Committee and
held the position of co-Chair of its Holiday Lights Project; and
WHEREAS, A former high school principal, Joe Wolfe has served as an
assistant at Ellenville and Rondout Valley High School track and field
programs, and held the title of Treasurer of the Ellenville/Wawarsing
Alumni Association; and
WHEREAS, Joe Wolfe has also been a member of the Knights of Columbus,
the Elks, and the Run Like The Wind Committee, and has been actively
involved with the Ellenville Noonday Club, where he held the position of
President; in addition, he has graciously counseled numerous cancer
patients, and was instrumental in starting the Student Exchange Program
in Ellenville with students from Bielefeld, Germany; and
WHEREAS, Throughout the entire period of their community service, a
period of constructive involvement, Joe and Fran Wolfe have stood
constant in dignity, good grace and humor; and
WHEREAS, With them throughout have been their five children, their
nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren, all of whom feel privi-
leged to be a part of their life and rejoice in their achievements; and
WHEREAS, Rare indeed is the impressive dedication shown by individuals
for the benefit of others which Joe and Fran Wolfe have displayed
throughout their lives; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that those who
enhance the well-being and vitality of their community and have shown a
long and sustained commitment to excellence certainly have earned the
recognition and applause of all the citizens of this great Empire State;
now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend Joe and Fran Wolfe upon the occasion of being named the 2015
Citizens of the Year by the Noonday Club on May 24, 2016; and be it
further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Joe and Fran Wolfe.
