LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION congratulating the Shenendehowa High School
Varsity Color Guard upon the occasion of capturing the Gold Medal at the
WGI Color Guard World Championships
WHEREAS, Excellence and success in competitive sports can be achieved
only through strenuous practice, team play and team spirit, nurtured by
dedicated coaching and strategic planning; and
WHEREAS, Athletic competition enhances the moral and physical develop-
ment of the young people of this State, preparing them for the future by
instilling in them the value of teamwork, encouraging a standard of
healthy living, imparting a desire for success and developing a sense of
fair play and competition; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to congratulate the
Shenendehowa High School Varsity Color Guard upon the occasion of
capturing the Gold Medal at the WGI Color Guard World Championships held
from Thursday, April 7, 2016, through Saturday, April 9, 2016, at the
University of Dayton Arena in Dayton, Ohio; and
WHEREAS, The Winter Guard International (WGI) Sport of the Arts World
Championships is the premier showcase for winter color guard; as a non-
profit youth organization, it serves as the leading governing body of
the indoor winter guard, and brings music to life through performance in
a competitive format; and
WHEREAS, For 39 years, the sport has continued to evolve and grow with
more than 36,000 participants at the regional level, and more than
12,000 participants at the 2016 WGI Sport of the Arts World Champion-
ships; and
WHEREAS, WGI is focused on education and provides curriculum materials
for classes in equipment, movement and design; the organization promotes
higher education by annually awarding academic scholarships to student
performers; and
WHEREAS, The Shenendehowa High School Varsity Color Guard won its
first Gold Medal in school history in the Scholastic Open Division with
an outstanding performance from the team members; and
WHEREAS, In addition to the squad's overall title, the team's free-
flowing routine won a "Fan-Favorite" Award at the championships; and
WHEREAS, Comprised of 16 students in grades nine through twelve, the
Shenendehowa High School Varsity Color Guard competed against 52 teams;
the team's show was entitled Beauty Misunderstood and its total winning
score for the competition was 96.85; and
WHEREAS, The athletic talent displayed by the Shenendehowa High School
Varsity Color Guard is due in great part to the efforts of Director,
Scott Snell, a skilled and inspirational tutor, respected for his abili-
ty to develop potential into excellence; and
WHEREAS, The team had an undefeated record for the season, and the
team members were loyally and enthusiastically supported by family,
fans, friends and the community-at-large; and
WHEREAS, The hallmarks of the Shenendehowa High School Varsity Color
Guard, from the opening of the season to participation in the champion-
ship, were a fellowship of athletic ability, of good sportsmanship, of
honor and of scholarship, demonstrating that these team players are
second to none; and
WHEREAS, Athletically and academically, the team members have proven
themselves to be an unbeatable combination of talents, reflecting favor-
ably on their school; and
WHEREAS, Sports competition instills the values of teamwork, pride and
accomplishment, and Director Scott Snell and all of these outstanding
athletes have clearly made a contribution to the spirit of excellence
which is a tradition of their school; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
congratulate Shenendehowa High School Varsity Color Guard; its members:
Brittany Anderson, Erica Barber, Emma Foo, Madison Gibbs, Theresa
Gundel, Sabrina Lorica, Amanda Maltz, Kendra Mendoza, Maxwell Mosier,
Kelly Pagniello, Taylor Pelc, Erica Ruchlicki, Samantha Savage, Kristin
Thayer, Alexis Tucker and Amanda Wareing; and Director Scott Snell, on
their outstanding season and overall team record; and be it further
RESOLVED, That copies of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to the members of the Shenendehowa High School Varsity Color
Guard, Director Scott Snell, Superintendent Dr. L. Oliver Robinson, High
School Principal Donald Flynt, and School Board members.
