LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Judith R. Saidel upon the occasion of
her designation as recipient of the Distinguished Service to the College
Award by Rockefeller College of Public Affairs & Policy

WHEREAS, It is incumbent upon the people of the State of New York to
recognize and acknowledge those within our midst who have made signif-
icant contributions to the quality of life therein; and
WHEREAS, From time to time this Legislative Body takes note of certain
extraordinary individuals it wishes to recognize for their valued
contributions to the success and progress of society and publicly
acknowledge their endeavors which have enhanced the basic humanity among
us all; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Judith R.
Saidel upon the occasion of her designation as recipient of the Distin-
guished Service to the College Award by the Rockefeller College of
Public Affairs & Policy, to be celebrated at its Annual Alumni Dinner &
Awards Ceremony on Friday, May 13, 2016, at the New York State Museum,
Albany, New York; and
WHEREAS, Judith R. Saidel earned her master's degree in 1978, and her
Ph.D. in 1990, from the Rockefeller College of Public Affairs & Policy
at the University of Albany; and
WHEREAS, Currently, Judith R. Seidel is a Professor Emerita of Public
Administration and Policy at the Rockefeller College of Public Affairs &
Policy; her research interests have included interdependence and
contract management issues between public agencies and nonprofit organ-
ization, nonprofit governance, and gender and political participation;
and
WHEREAS, From 1991-2009, Judith R. Saidel served as Director of the
Center for Women in Government & Civil Society, a research, policy
education, leadership development, technical assistance and training
center founded in 1978, as part of the Graduate School of Public
Affairs; and
WHEREAS, For a number of years, Judith R. Saidel directed and was the
Principal Investigator of the Center's Appointed Policy Makers in State
Government project; in addition, she founded and served as Chair of the
Nonprofit Executive Roundtable at the Rockefeller College of Public
Affairs & Policy; the Roundtable sponsored applied research publications
and the Tech Valley Civic Forum, a multi-sector, multi-year regional
social change process; and
WHEREAS, From 2000-2002, Judith R. Saidel was the Principal Investi-
gator of Governance Futures New Perspectives on Nonprofit Governance, .
Discovery Phase, a project under the leadership of BoardSource, based in
Washington, D.C., in collaboration with the Hauser Center for Nonprofit
Organizations at Harvard University; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that those who
enhance the quality of life in their community and have shown a long and
sustained commitment to the maintenance of high standards in their
profession, certainly have earned the recognition and applause of all
the citizens of this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Judith R. Saidel upon the occasion of her designation as recipient
of the Distinguished Service to the College Award by Rockefeller College
of Public Affairs & Policy; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Judith R. Saidel.
