LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION congratulating the Hicksville PAL Boys' Basket-
ball Team upon the occasion of winning the 2014 Nassau County Police
Activity League's Holiday Basketball Tournament

WHEREAS, Excellence and success in competitive team sports can be
achieved only through strenuous practice, strong teamwork, and a dedi-
cated coaching staff; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize those
young people within our community, who, by achieving outstanding success
in athletic competition, have inspired and brought pride to their school
district and community; and
WHEREAS, Athletic competition enhances the moral and physical develop-
ment of the young people of this State, preparing them for the future by
instilling in them the value of teamwork, encouraging a standard of
healthy living, imparting a desire for success, and developing a sense
of fair play and competition; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to congratu-
late the Hicksville PAL Boys' Basketball Team upon the occasion of
winning the 2014 Nassau County Police Activity League's Holiday Basket-
ball Tournament; and
WHEREAS, This is the fifth year the NCPAL has hosted a holiday basket-
ball tournament, which is held in honor of Betty Ginnobi, who worked as
the Nassau County PAL Corporate Bookkeeper for 20 years; she gave of her
time and energies working closely with all the PAL Units and Police
Officers to help keep PAL running smoothly; and
WHEREAS, A total of six Nassau County Police Activity League (NCPAL)
units, serving the communities of Bethpage, Plainview, Bellmore,
Wantagh-Seaford, Hicksville and Oyster Bay-East Norwich (OBEN) partic-
ipated in the tournament, with Hicksville being the No. 1 seed in the
playoffs; and
WHEREAS, The Hicksville PAL Basketball Team beat Bellmore PAL 58-42 in
the first playoff round and then captured the NCPAL's Holiday Basketball
Tournament Championship after defeating Bethpage PAL 57-40; and
WHEREAS, Basketball is a wholesome sports activity for the young
people of Hicksville, New York, and our Nation, involving children,
teenagers, coaches, parents, sponsors and other interested men and
women, helping to build character in young competitors through the life-
long lessons of sportsmanship and competition learned on the court; and
WHEREAS, Community athletic groups such as the Hicksville PAL Boys'
Basketball Team help to provide a strong and stable environment for
children and provide an opportunity for the community to bond through
the recreation of sports competition; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
congratulate the Hicksville PAL Boys' Basketball Team upon the occasion
of winning the 2014 Nassau County Police Activity League's Holiday
Basketball Tournament; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to the Hicksville PAL Boys' Basketball Team.
