LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commending the National Association for Black
Military Women New York City Chapter upon the occasion of hosting its
Inaugural Scholarship Dinner on May 15, 2016
WHEREAS, African American female members of the United States Armed
Services from the State of New York, who have served so faithfully and
courageously in wars in which our Nation's freedom was at stake, as well
as in the preservation of peace during peacetime, deserve a special
salute from this Legislative Body; and
WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to recognize that
the quality and character of life in the communities across New York
State are reflective of the concerned and dedicated efforts of those
organizations and individuals who would devote themselves to the service
of their country; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to commend
the National Association for Black Military Women New York City Chapter
upon the occasion of hosting its Inaugural Scholarship Dinner to be
celebrated on Sunday, May 15, 2016, at Antun's Catering Hall in Queens
Village, New York; and
WHEREAS, The National Association of Black Military Women (NABMW) is
composed of African American women from throughout the Nation who are
veterans or current members of the United States Armed Forces; and
WHEREAS, Founded under its former name of "The Black WRAC, WAC, Women
in Service," the mission of the NABMW is to seek out, record and express
the history of Black Military Women; and
WHEREAS, The New York Chapter of NABMW is one of the most active and
leading chapters of the Association, and works to keep alive the history
and heritage of Black Women who have ably served our nation with courage
and valor in the military services of our country; and
WHEREAS, This esteemed service organization works tirelessly to foster
a spirit of camaraderie and goodwill among all individuals interested in
Black history through community involvement in numerous programs; and
WHEREAS, In addition, the New York Chapter of NABMW strives to moti-
vate and support black youth in their attainment of academic excellence
by utilizing military role models as a source of inspiration and making
historical military information relating to black military women avail-
able to lectures, forum exhibits and various media activities; and
WHEREAS, The success of the New York Chapter of NABMW over the years
is in direct correlation to the efforts of its members, whose involve-
ment is, and always has been, characterized by an impressive commitment,
an unbridled enthusiasm, and an uncompromising standard of excellence in
all endeavors on behalf of the organization and the community it serves;
and
WHEREAS, Under the luminous guidance of Chapter President, Colonel
Carol St. Pierre, the New York Chapter of NABMW will to continue to
inspire Black female service members "To Tell Her Story" for many years
to come; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is moved with great respect and rever-
ent esteem, and, on behalf of all of the citizens of the Empire State,
to renew its tribute to the African American women service members of
New York State who have so courageously served their State and Nation in
the defense of freedom and democracy; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend the National Association for Black Military Women New York City
Chapter upon the occasion of hosting its Inaugural Scholarship Dinner;
and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Colonel Carol St. Pierre, Chapter President, the National
Association for Black Military Women New York City Chapter.
