LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring the Yorktown Central School District
upon the occasion of being named a National School District of Character
by Character.org

WHEREAS, The State of New York takes great pride in acknowledging the
outstanding achievements of its esteemed public school districts; and
WHEREAS, The Yorktown Central School District was recently named a
National School District of Character by Character.org; the non-profit
will recognize the district during its National Forum on Character
Education in Washington, D.C. from October 14 - 15, 2016; and
WHEREAS, The Yorktown Central School District was notified that it was
named a Statewide School District of Character in February; it was the
only district in New York, and the first time a district in Westchester
County has received this honor; and
WHEREAS, After a site visit and other reviews, Character.org notified
the District that it had progressed to a National School District of
Character in a letter sent on May 10, 2016; and
WHEREAS, Under the able leadership of Superintendent Dr. Ralph Napoli-
tano, the Yorktown Central School District is one of only four districts
in the entire country that received this prestigious designation; and
WHEREAS, The award recognizes the Yorktown Central School District's
ongoing commitment to character education, which is reflected in its
mission statement, core beliefs, and practices; and
WHEREAS, The State of New York is immensely proud of the Yorktown
Central School District and the example it sets for other districts
throughout New York State and across the country; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor the Yorktown Central School District upon the occasion of being
named a National School District of Character by Character.org; and be
it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Dr. Ralph Napolitano, Superintendent of Schools, Yorktown
Central School District.
