LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Sally Marsh for 45 years of distin-
guished service to Allegany State Park
WHEREAS, It is the intent of this Legislative Body to commemorate and
honor the significant contributions of time and talents through communi-
ty and public service by certain esteemed residents of this great Empire
State; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
Sally Marsh for 45 years of distinguished service to Allegany State
Park; and
WHEREAS, Sally Marsh was born on July 7, 1954, to parents Fran and
Alice Wright; she attended school in Salamanca and spent 30 years as a
Physical Education teacher, before retiring in 2006; and
WHEREAS, Sally Marsh is the loving mother of Cole and Roy Booth; and
WHEREAS, Sally Marsh began her career with Allegany State Park while
she was in high school, beginning as a lifeguard at the Fancher pool;
and
WHEREAS, Sally Marsh began to play her guitar for the Hootenanny, an
opportunity for park visitors to enjoy music around a campfire; the
event has grown in popularity and has moved to the Quaker area Amphi-
theater to accommodate hundreds of participants; she has been holding
Sally's Hootenanny at Allegany State Park since 1971, which is 45
consecutive years of songs at the park; and
WHEREAS, The weekly Hootenanny takes place every Thursday during the
summer regardless of weather conditions; Sally Marsh and her partic-
ipants have braved cold rain and impending thunderstorms to continue the
event; and
WHEREAS, This remarkable woman brings her enthusiastic love of music
to the event; her interaction with the crowd of young children, teens,
parents and retirees results in hours of singing, acting, dancing and
clapping; and
WHEREAS, Sally Marsh thoroughly enjoys singing, traveling on antique
and classic trains, and arts and crafts; and
WHEREAS, She has many life achievements, including being the first
female in New York State to receive a varsity letter in a high school
boys sport (bowling), first female lifeguard at Allegany State Park, and
coaching both basketball and softball at Salamanca School; she was also
the volleyball, basketball and bowling coach at Little Valley School;
she was inducted into the Cattaraugus County Sports Hall of Fame in
April of 2016; and brought a Guinness World Record to Allegany State
Park for "Old McDonald's Farm" in 2013; and
WHEREAS, Sally Marsh is truly an ambassador of Allegany State Park;
she represents the positive impact our State Parks have on individuals,
families and communities; and
WHEREAS, It is the intent of this Legislative Body to publicly recog-
nize and honor those citizens of this great Empire State who work so
assiduously for the betterment of their communities; now, therefore, be
it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Sally Marsh for 45 years of distinguished service to Allegany
State Park; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Sally Marsh.
