LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Leena Mathew upon the occasion of her
designation as recipient of the Adult Presidential Gold Service Award by
the Merrick Association of Girl Scouts on June 1, 2016
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to call attention to
the dedicated efforts of those individuals from across the State of New
York who volunteer their time and energies in service to the community;
and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Leena Mathew
upon the occasion of her designation as recipient of the Adult Presiden-
tial Gold Service Award by the Merrick Association of Girl Scouts, to be
celebrated at an Awards Ceremony on Wednesday, June 1, 2016, at the
Merrick Golf Course, Merrick, New York; and
WHEREAS, Leena Mathew has been called upon to contribute her time and
talents to countless civic and charitable endeavors and has always given
of herself unstintingly; and
WHEREAS, Throughout the past few years, Leena Mathew has donated 594
hours of service to Merrick Association of Girl Scouts Troop 2358; as a
Mixed Troop Leader and volunteer, she has enjoyed helping children reach
their full potential by guiding them on their journey to successful
futures; and
WHEREAS, In addition to her work with the Girl Scouts, Leena Mathew
has been a faithful member of her church where she has assisted on
numerous committees and fundraisers including the book fair, pancake
breakfasts, Operation Christmas Child and the Homeless Mission Project;
she also served as a Sunday School Teacher and a chaperone for Youth
Fellowship outings; and
WHEREAS, Furthermore, Leena Mathew has worked with the Boy Scouts,
collected for Island Harvest and the Bethpage Turkey Drives, helped
organize the Magro Madness Charity Ball, and assisted with Santa's
Little All-Stars, as well as held the position of LIMC YFF Vice Presi-
dent and Conference Committee member; and
WHEREAS, Dedicated to the well-being of her community, Leena Mathew
has participated in numerous health organization fundraisers such as the
ALS Walk, Komen's Breast Cancer Walk, and the MS Walk; and
WHEREAS, Throughout the entire period of her community service, a
period of constructive involvement, Leena Mathew has stood constant in
dignity, good grace and humor; and
WHEREAS, Volunteerism is an essential element of all societies; it
provides a way in which the human values of community, caring and serv-
ing can be sustained and strengthened; and
WHEREAS, Volunteerism promotes family and community solidarity; most
importantly, people who volunteer their time in civic and charitable
endeavors inspire others to the call of volunteerism; and
WHEREAS, In the faithful performance of her duties and volunteer
efforts, Leena Mathew's ongoing endeavors have significantly contributed
to bettering the quality of life in her community; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Leena Mathew upon the occasion of her designation as recipient of
the Adult Presidential Gold Service Award by the Merrick Association of
Girl Scouts on June 1, 2016; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Leena Mathew.
