LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring David Rezak upon the occasion of his
induction into the Syracuse Area Music Awards Hall of Fame as Music
Educator of the Year

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to honor and recognize
those talented individuals within our midst, who have had a significant
impact on the arts and culture of our communities, by providing
outstanding instruction in the field of music; one such individual is
David Rezak; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
David Rezak upon the occasion of his induction into the Syracuse Area
Music Awards (SAMMY's) Hall of Fame as Music Educator of the Year; the
induction ceremony will be held on March 5, 2015, at the Dinosaur Bar-B-
Que in Syracuse, New York; and
WHEREAS, The Syracuse Area Music Awards were first established in 1993
to annually recognize and honor Syracuse's most prominent musicians and
music educators, aiming to bring these individuals to the forefront of
public attention; and
WHEREAS, David Rezak, a longtime resident of Syracuse and a professor
of music, began managing musical groups in 1969; in 1973, he founded the
DMR Booking Agency, a respected regional talent agency and events
production firm; and
WHEREAS, In 1995, David Rezak joined the music industry faculty at the
Syracuse University Setnor School of Music where he and a group of his
students founded the Syracuse University Recordings and the Marshall
Street Records labels; he also initiated the Soyars Leadership Lecture
Series to provide students with the opportunity to interact with top-
level music executives; and
WHEREAS, In 2003, David Rezak sold his booking agency and joined the
faculty at Syracuse University's College of Visual and Performing Arts
as the Director of Program Design; and
WHEREAS, Under his leadership at Syracuse University's College of
Visual and Performing Arts, David Rezak was instrumental in launching
the multi-disciplinary Bandier Program for Music and the Entertainment
Industries, which involves a rigorous 125-credit course progression with
SU's Newhouse School of Public Communications, the Whitman School of
Management, and the College of Arts and Sciences; and
WHEREAS, The Bandier Program for Music and the Entertainment Indus-
tries also provides students with weekly contact with industry profes-
sionals, hands-on learning opportunities, a semester in Los Angeles, and
a study abroad semester in London, England; and
WHEREAS, In addition to his role as Bandier Program Director, David
Rezak continues to serve as a member of the Music and Entertainment
Industry Educators Association, a faculty advisor to WERW Radio, and a
mentor to University Union's Concert Board; and
WHEREAS, In 1999, David Rezak received his first induction into the
SAMMY's Hall of Fame for his overall accomplishments in the music indus-
try; and
WHEREAS, It is the practice of this Legislative Body that those who
enhance the quality of life in their community and have shown a long and
sustained commitment to the maintenance of high standards in their
profession, certainly have earned the recognition and applause of all
the citizens of this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor David Rezak upon the occasion of his induction into the Syracuse

Area Music Awards Hall of Fame as Music Educator of the Year; and be it
further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to David Rezak.
