LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commending Maggie Guerriero Mulvaney upon the
occasion of her designation for special recognition by Mount Mercy Acad-
emy on June 10, 2016
WHEREAS, It is the practice of this Legislative Body to recognize that
the quality and character of life in the communities across New York
State are enhanced by the concerned and dedicated efforts of organiza-
tions and individuals that generously contribute to the welfare of the
community and its citizenry; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to commend
Maggie Guerriero Mulvaney upon the occasion of her designation for
special recognition by Mount Mercy Academy, to be celebrated at its 8th
Annual 5K Run on Friday, June 10, 2016, at Cazenovia Park in Buffalo,
New York; and
WHEREAS, A true leader in the Buffalo community, Mount Mercy Academy
has been educating young women for over 110 years; its alumnae has grown
to over 10,000 members and 70 percent still live and work in Western New
York; and
WHEREAS, Each year, this esteemed organization is privileged to recog-
nize outstanding members of the community who have made significant
contributions to the Buffalo community; this year's distinguished hono-
ree is Maggie Guerriero Mulvaney, a graduate of Mount Mercy Academy's
Class of 2004; and
WHEREAS, Cultivating a passion for cooking which started during her
younger years with her mother and grandmother, Maggie Guerriero Mulvaney
studied at the prestigious Culinary Institute of America in Hyde Park,
New York, in the Fall of 2004; and
WHEREAS, Maggie Guerriero Mulvaney earned an Associate's degree in
Culinary Arts and a Bachelor degree in Hospitality Management; in addi-
tion, she made the dean's list for her academic achievements as well as
serving as a Resident Advisor; she also had the opportunity to study
food and wine in California; and
WHEREAS, After graduation, Maggie Guerriero Mulvaney worked in Nash-
ville, Tennessee, as a restaurant manager, and was selected by her
company to move to Orlando, Florida, becoming the youngest manager in
the company's history to open up a new restaurant; in 2010, she moved
back to Buffalo where she reunited with her high school sweetheart; and
WHEREAS, In September of 2011, Maggie Guerriero Mulvaney purchased
Park Edge Sweet Shoppe with her sister, Anna Guerriero Hartog, taking
over operations of an historic South Buffalo business which had been in
operation since 1948; and
WHEREAS, With her baking and cooking skills, Maggie Guerriero Mulvaney
helped the shop maintain the recipes and traditions of the original Park
Edge Sweet Shoppe, including their uniquely shaped sponge candy, while
also introducing fun new items such as Candy Apples and fresh made truf-
fles; and
WHEREAS, In February of 2013, Maggie Guerriero Mulvaney and her sister
purchased a local cookie shop, Cookie Expressions, expanding the busi-
ness and moving it into the Park Edge location; and
WHEREAS, In addition to her tireless devotion to her business, Maggie
Guerriero Mulvaney presently works with the Valley Community Association
to adopt a local family in need, volunteers with the Haven House to
collect donations for families in need, and coordinates with Catholic
Charities to give internships to those in need; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when organiza-
tions and individuals of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought
to our attention, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the
citizens of this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend Maggie Guerriero Mulvaney upon the occasion of her designation
for special recognition by Mount Mercy Academy on June 10, 2016; and be
it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Maggie Guerriero Mulvaney.
