LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Captain Paul Harrington upon the occa-
sion of being named the 2016 Fire Prevention Educator of the Year by the
Orange County Firefighters Museum
WHEREAS, The firefighters of New York State are renowned throughout the
Nation; their reputation is synonymous with excellence in the arduous
field of fire protection and prevention; and
WHEREAS, Since the early days of "teapot steamers," the volunteer
firefighter has been the cornerstone of our great Nation's efforts to
spare us from the ravages of fire; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Captain Paul
Harrington upon the occasion of being named the 2016 Fire Prevention
Educator of the Year by the Orange County Firefighters Museum to be
celebrated at its 6th Annual Gala at the Fire Safety Education Center,
Montgomery, New York, on Friday, June 3, 2016; and
WHEREAS, Paul Harrington, Captain of the Cronomer Valley Fire Depart-
ment, has been involved in firefighting for 28 years, eight years with
the Cronomer Valley Fire Department, 14 years with the Good Will Fire
Department, and six years with the Plattsburgh Fire Department; and
WHEREAS, Captain Paul Harrington joins former recipients of this
esteemed award: Amy Conner Kosturik, Good Will Fire Department (2011);
Barbara Gasperetti, Coldenham Fire Department (2012); Chad Quackenbush,
Warwick Fire Department (2013); Frederick "Mike" Hoffman, Goshen Fire
Department (2014) and James E. Ferguson, Montgomery Fire Department
(2015); and
WHEREAS, Volunteer firefighters and fire departments not only provide
the critical service of fire protection but also engage in other activ-
ities of great benefit and importance to the communities they serve; and
WHEREAS, It takes a special dedication, a strong desire to help others
and a tireless sense of community to forsake precious time with family
and friends to respond to the signal that a neighbor is in need; Captain
Paul Harrington is such a firefighter; throughout his 28 years of
devoted service, this volunteer heroically performed, above and beyond
the call of duty, those responsibilities which define the task of fire
protection; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Captain Paul Harrington upon the occasion of being named the 2016
Fire Prevention Educator of the Year by the Orange County Firefighters
Museum; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Captain Paul Harrington.
