LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commending Dr. Michael R. Laliberte upon the
occasion of his inauguration as the 10th President of the State Univer-
sity of New York at Delhi on July 21, 2016

WHEREAS, This Legislative Body seeks to acknowledge those leaders in
education whose professional lives and civic endeavors serve to enhance
the stature of the State of New York; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to commend
Dr. Michael R. Laliberte upon the occasion of his inauguration as the
10th President of the State University of New York at Delhi to be cele-
brated on Thursday, July 21, 2016; and
WHEREAS, Michael R. Laliberte earned his Bachelor's degree in Human
Development, Counseling and Family Studies from the University of Rhode
Island, and completed his Master's degree in College Student Development
and Counseling from Northeastern University; and
WHEREAS, After furthering his education at Johnson and Wales Universi-
ty, Michael R. Laliberte received his Doctorate in Educational Leader-
ship in Higher Education; he also holds an advanced certificate in Fund
Raising Management from the Indiana University Lilly Family School of
Philanthropy; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Michael R. Laliberte has more than 20 years of experience
in higher education and has served as a Senior Administrator for 10
years working in such areas as enrollment management, retention, commu-
nity engagement and diversity initiatives; and
WHEREAS, In 1996, Dr. Michael R. Laliberte began his illustrious
career in higher education administration as Assistant Dean of Students
and Director of Judicial Affairs at Springfield College; he later served
at the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth where he earned numerous
promotions on his way to becoming Associate Vice Chancellor for Student
Affairs; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Michael R. Laliberte accepted a position as Vice Presi-
dent for Student Affairs and Enrollment Management at Boise State
University in 2006, where he ably served for four years before becoming
Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs and Enrollment Management at the
University of Wisconsin Milwaukee (UWM); and
WHEREAS, During his illustrious tenure at UWM, Dr. Michael R. Lali-
berte helped to increase overall enrollment, improved retention rates,
created living-learning communities and established a Military and
Veterans Resource Center; he also expanded civic engagement, and secured
grants and private gifts to improve facilities and services for
students; and
WHEREAS, In addition, Dr. Michael R. Laliberte was instrumental in
creating a community partnership among UWM, Milwaukee Public Schools and
Milwaukee Area technical colleges which focused on enacting programs to
raise high school graduation rates, expand the high school to post-sec-
ondary pipeline and strengthen college preparation; and
WHEREAS, Moreover, Dr. Michael R. Laliberte served as the UWM
Chancellor's Cabinet representative to the Budget Planning Task Force
and the University Strategic Planning Core Team, as well as on the
Chancellor's Campus Organization and Effectiveness Team; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Michael R. Laliberte's many professional affiliations
include the American Council on Education, American Association of Slate
Colleges and Universities, Association of Public and Land-Grant Univer-
sities, American College Personnel Association and National Association
of Student Personnel Administrators; and

WHEREAS, With him throughout have been his husband, Tom Pauken, and
their son, Paul, both of whom feel privileged to be a part of his life
and rejoice in his achievements; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that those who
enhance the educational profile of their communities and have shown a
long and sustained commitment to the maintenance of high standards in
their profession, certainly have earned the recognition and applause of
all the citizens of this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Dr. Michael R. Laliberte upon the occasion of his inauguration as
the 10th President of the State University of New York at Delhi; and be
it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Dr. Michael R. Laliberte.
