LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION mourning the death of Kenneth J. Meyers, skilled
Electrician, Cheektowaga Supervisor and devoted member of his community

WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to pay tribute to
citizens of the State of New York whose lifework and civic endeavor
served to enhance the quality of life in their communities and the great
State of New York; and
WHEREAS, It is with feelings of deepest regret that this Legislative
Body records the passing of Kenneth J. Meyers, a preeminent citizen
whose distinguished public service and caring commitment will long serve
as a standard to which others might aspire; and
WHEREAS, Kenneth J. Meyers of Cheektowaga, New York, died on May 19,
2016, at the age of 83; and
WHEREAS, Born on August 25, 1932, Kenneth "Kenny" J. Meyers devoted
his life to the Town of Cheektowaga, New York; and
WHEREAS, After graduating from Seneca Vocational High School, Kenneth
J. Meyers proudly served his country as a member of the United States
Navy from 1953 to 1955; after his discharge, he served as an electrician
and was a vital member of Local 41 for over five decades; and
WHEREAS, Kenneth J. Meyers' commitment to excellence, and his spirit
of humanity, carried over into all fields of enterprise, including char-
itable and civic endeavors; and
WHEREAS, For 58 years, Kenneth J. Meyers was a faithful member of the
Queen of Martyrs Catholic Church, where he was named to its Holy Name
Society and was bestowed upon its Man of the Year Award; dedicated to
his church, he held the position of Parish Lawn Fete Chairman and found-
ed the church's 52 week club; and
WHEREAS, In 1970, Kenneth J. Meyers was elected to the Cheektowaga
Town Council, where he served until 1975; in this capacity, he developed
and enhanced recreational activities for the citizens of Cheektowaga,
was instrumental in the construction of the Cheektowaga Recreation
Center in the Town Park; and
WHEREAS, From 1976-1983, Kenneth J. Meyers held the title of Supervi-
sor of Cheektowaga; in this role he implemented better programs for the
elderly, helped install new sewer constructions, improved parks and the
police department, and aided his constituents in coping with the Bliz-
zard of 1977; and
WHEREAS, Throughout Kenneth J. Meyers' tenure, the Town of Cheektowaga
experienced economic growth with the construction of residential subdi-
visions and commercial development, turning the Town of Cheektowaga into
a first class Town with over 100,000 residents; and
WHEREAS, In 1976, Kenneth J. Meyers helped organize the Cheektowaga
Bicentennial Commission to celebrate our Nation's 200th Anniversary; the
Cheektowaga Bicentennial Commission then continued on for the past 40
years as the Cheektowaga Patriotic Commission; and
WHEREAS, After his distinguished service as Supervisor, Kenneth J.
Meyers took a job as the Town Electrician, saving the municipality
significant funds which would have been spent on consultant fees; and
WHEREAS, In addition to his luminous work with the Town, Kenneth J.
Meyers was a member of numerous worthy organizations including the Fran-
cis Donovan Post, Fraternal Order of Eagles, Knights of Columbus, and
the Cheektowaga Historical Society; he also established the Cheektowaga
Patriotic Committee and the Beverly Hills Athletic Association; and
WHEREAS, In recognition of his steadfast and unremitting commitment to
the Town, the Cheektowaga Recreation Center was renamed the Kenneth J.
Meyers Cheektowaga Recreation Center in 2016; and

WHEREAS, Kenneth J. Meyers is survived by his wife of 52 years, the
former Joan Carroll; daughter, Lisa Meyers-Alessi; three sons, Guy,
Marc, and Timothy; and seven grandchildren, as well as two great-grand-
children; and
WHEREAS, Kenneth J. Meyers was a man whose deep concern, ability to
get things done, and easy way with people provided him with success in
his leadership roles within his community and throughout the State of
New York; and
WHEREAS, Armed with a humanistic spirit and imbued with a sense of
compassion, Kenneth J. Meyers leaves behind a legacy which will long
endure the passage of time and will remain as a comforting memory to all
he served and befriended; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
mourn the death of Kenneth J. Meyers, skilled Electrician, Cheektowaga
Supervisor and devoted member of his community; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to the family of Kenneth J. Meyers.
