LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Korean War Veteran John Ciardullo upon
the occasion of being presented with several medals for his meritorious
service on May 7, 2016

WHEREAS, Members of the United States Armed Forces, who have served so
faithfully and courageously in wars in which our Nation's freedom was at
stake, as well as in the preservation of peace during peacetime, deserve
the highest commendation of this Legislative Body; and
WHEREAS, The dedication and sacrifices of our military personnel
ensure our continued role as a Nation which embodies the ideals of
democracy, and is a defender of liberty for peoples throughout the
world; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Korean War
Veteran John Ciardullo upon the occasion of being presented with several
medals for his meritorious service; this auspicious occasion was cele-
brated at a Medal Presentation Ceremony held on Saturday, May 7, 2016,
at the Walden Village Hall in Walden, New York; and
WHEREAS, United States Representative Sean Patrick Maloney presented
John Ciardullo with the following medals: the National Defense Service
Medal, Korean Service Medal with two Bronze Stars, Combat Infantryman
Badge 1st Award, and the United Nations Service Medal; and
WHEREAS, Born on February 21, 1933, in Brooklyn, New York, John Ciar-
dullo is the second of four children born to his parents; and
WHEREAS, Corporal John Ciardullo proudly served his country as a
member of the United States Army from July 8, 1952 until April 30, 1954;
during this time, he fought in the Third Korean Winter and the Korea
Summer of 1953 Battles which were also known as Pork Chop Hill; and
WHEREAS, After completing his military service, this esteemed veteran
married Clare Farace on May 4, 1957, and together, they became the proud
parents of five children, Michael, Catherine, Douglas, Richard and John
Peter, and the loving grandparents of 15 grandchildren and six great-
grandchildren; recently, they celebrated their 59th anniversary; and
WHEREAS, John Ciardullo has been called upon to contribute his time
and talents to countless civic and charitable endeavors and has always
given of himself unstintingly; he served as President of the Walden
Little League, Head of the Village of Walden Basketball Program, Direc-
tor of the Knights of Columbus, President of the Walden Rotary and
Umpire and Chief of the Walden Little League; and
WHEREAS, In addition, John Ciardullo was the home plate umpire in the
Little League World Series game in 1982 played between Canada and
Taiwan, the first little league game televised by ESPN; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is very pleased to have this opportu-
nity to express its gratitude to the men and women of the United States
Armed Forces for their tremendous sacrifices made for our Nation and for
the benefit of all Americans; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Korean War veteran John Ciardullo upon the occasion of being
presented with several medals for his meritorious service; and be it
further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to John Ciardullo.
