LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Colonel Landy D. Dunham for his distin-
guished service as United States Army Garrison West Point Commander

WHEREAS, Members of the Armed Services from the State of New York, who
have served so valiantly and honorably in wars in which this country's
freedom was at stake, as well as in the preservation of peace in peace-
time, deserve a special salute from this Legislative Body; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Colonel Landy
D. Dunham for his distinguished service as United States Army Garrison
West Point Commander, to be observed at a Change of Command Ceremony on
Thursday, July 7, 2016, in the Eisenhower Hall Theatre, United States
Military Academy, West Point, New York; and
WHEREAS, A native of Camden, South Carolina, Landy D. Dunham proudly
enlisted in the United States Army in May of 1988; while enlisted, he
was selected to attend the United States Military Academy Preparatory
School (USMAPS) at Fort Monmouth, New Jersey; and
WHEREAS, Upon graduation in 1989, Landy D. Dunham earned an appoint-
ment to the United States Military Academy, West Point, New York; in May
of 1993, he graduated from the Academy and was commissioned as Second
Lieutenant in the Aviation Branch; and
WHEREAS, Following his commissioning, Lieutenant Landy D. Dunham
attended and graduated from the Aviation Officer's Basic Course and the
Initial Entry Rotary Wing Course (Army Aviation Flight School) at Fort
Rucker, Alabama, in July of 1994; and
WHEREAS, Colonel Landy D. Dunham then departed Fort Rucker for Fort
Campbell, Kentucky, where he served in several key leadership positions
including Aviation Assault Platoon Leader, Assistant Operations Officer,
and Battalion Intelligence Officer for 4th Battalion, 101st Aviation
Regiment, 101st Airborne Division; and
WHEREAS, In September of 1997, following his tour with the 101st
Airborne Division, Colonel Landy D. Dunham was selected to represent the
Aviation Branch at the Combined Logistics Officer Advanced Course
(CLOAC) at Fort Lee, Virginia; he graduated from CLOAC with honors in
March of 1998, and immediately attended the Combined Arms Service Staff
School at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas; and
WHEREAS, In June of 1998, Colonel Landy D. Dunham was reassigned to
South Korea "The Land of the Morning Calm" for a one-year tour, where he
served as the Shop's Platoon Leader and Company Executive Officer of
Charlie Company, 52nd Aviation Regiment; and
WHEREAS, In June of 1999, following his tour in South Korea, Colonel
Landy D. Dunham was assigned to the XVIII Airborne Corps' Aviation
Brigade at Fort Bragg, North Carolina, where he served as the Brigade
Logistics Officer until June of 2000, when he was selected to take
command of Alpha Company, 1st Battalion 159th Aviation Regiment; and
WHEREAS, In September of 2001, Colonel Landy D. Dunham was deployed to
Bosnia-Herzgovnia in support of Operation Joint Forge; upon the
completion of his company command in June of 2002, he was nominated to
serve as both the Aviation Captains' Career Manager and Assignments
Officer at the Army Human Resources Command (HRC) in Alexandria, Virgi-
nia; and
WHEREAS, After two years of distinguished service, Colonel Landy D.
Dunham was selected to represent the United States Army at the United
States Marine Corps' Command and Staff College in Quantico, Virginia;
upon graduation in June of 2005, he was once again assigned to the 101st
Airborne Division at Fort Campbell, Kentucky; and
WHEREAS, Two months after his arrival, Colonel Landy D. Dunham was
deployed to Iraq as the Battalion Operations Officer of 5th Battalion

101st Aviation Regiment in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom; after his
return to the United States in September of 2006, he held the title of
5th Battalion 101st Aviation Regiment Executive Officer; and
WHEREAS, In July of 2007, Colonel Landy D. Dunham was nominated to
serve at the Army Human Resources Command in Alexandria, Virginia;
during this tour, however, he served as the Aviation Majors' and Lieu-
tenant Colonels' Career Manager and Assignments Officer; and
WHEREAS, Colonel Landy D. Dunham then served as the Department
Chair/Professor of Military Science at Howard University in Washington,
DC from June of 2009 through June of 2010, before assuming command of
the 3rd Battalion, 82nd Aviation Regiment on July 13, 2010, at Fort
Bragg, North Carolina; and
WHEREAS, While in command of the multi-functional Aviation Task Force,
Task Force Talon, Colonel Landy D. Dunham deployed the battalion Task
Force to Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom; upon the
battalion's return to Fort Bragg, he relinquished command of 3-82nd
Aviation in December of 2012; and
WHEREAS, After a short tour of duty serving HQ, FORSCOM, Colonel Landy
D. Dunham attended the Dwight D. Eisenhower School for National Securi-
ty and Resource Strategy at the National Defense University in Washing-
ton, DC; and
WHEREAS, Throughout his distinguished military career, Colonel Landy
D. Dunham continually furthered his education; he successfully
completed the Aviation Officer Basic Course, the Initial Entry Rotary
Wing Course, the Combined Logistics Advanced Course and the Air Assault
and Rappel Master Course; and graduated from the Combined Service and
Staff School, the Marine Corps Command and Staff College, the Eisenhower
School for National Security and Resource Strategy and the United States
Army Airborne School; and
WHEREAS, Colonel Landy D. Dunham's civilian education includes a Bach-
elor of Science degree in Management from the United States Military
Academy, a Master of Military Studies from the United States Marine
Corps University, and a Master of Science degree in National Resource
Strategy from the National Defense University; and
WHEREAS, For his meritorious service to his country, Colonel Landy D.
Dunham was the recipient of numerous awards and decorations such as the
Bronze Star Medal with one OLC, Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Meri-
torious Service Medal with four OLC, Army Commendation Medal with three
OLC, Army Achievement Medal with two OLC, National Defense Service Medal
with Bronze Star, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, Iraqi Campaign Medal

with two campaign stars, Afghanistan Campaign Medal with one campaign
star, Global War on Terror Service Medal, Korean Defense Service Medal,
Army Service Medal, Overseas Service Medal with Numeral 3, NATO Medal,
Senior Army Aviators Badge, Air Assault Badge, and Army Parachutist
Badge, as well as the Honorable Order of Saint Michael Medallion; and
WHEREAS, With him throughout have been his wife of 20 years, the
former Kaye Warzynski, and his two daughters, Kaylan and Lucinda, all of
whom feel privileged to be a part of his life and rejoice in his accom-
plishments; and
WHEREAS, Residents of this great State must never forget the courage
with which individuals, such as Colonel Landy D. Dunham have served
their country, and must recognize that no greater debt is owed than that
owed to those who have risked their lives for their beloved Nation; and
WHEREAS, Having exhibited his patriotism both at home and abroad,
Colonel Landy D. Dunham has demonstrated his love for his country and
merits forevermore, the highest respect of his State and Nation; and
WHEREAS, Our Nation's veterans deserve to be recognized, commended and
thanked by the people of the State of New York for their service and for

their dedication to their communities, their State and their Nation;
now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Colonel Landy D. Dunham for his distinguished service as United
States Army Garrison West Point Commander; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Colonel Landy D. Dunham.
