LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION congratulating Emily Ooms upon the occasion of
being crowned the 2016-2017 New York State Dairy Princess

WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to call attention to
those young people who have inspired and brought pride to our majestic
Empire State; and
WHEREAS, Individuals who give of their time and energies and serve the
best interests of their communities are an asset beyond remuneration and
cannot be sufficiently extolled; and
WHEREAS, The agricultural industry of the State of New York is highly
benefited by the active promotion of farming endeavors and agricultural
products; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to congratu-
late Emily Ooms upon the occasion of being crowned the 2016-2017 New
York State Dairy Princess by the American Dairy Association and Dairy
Council, Inc. on Wednesday, February 17, 2016, at the Holiday Inn in
Liverpool, New York; and
WHEREAS, A resident of the Town of Valatie, New York, Emily Ooms has
been serving as Columbia County Dairy Princess since the spring of 2015;
she was selected for this auspicious honor from approximately two dozen
county dairy princesses from across New York State; and
WHEREAS, Competition in the 53rd State pageant included a personal
interview, an impromptu and prepared speech, a product knowledge test
and a writing skills test as well as informal interaction with others;
judges evaluated the contestants on their communication skills, know-
ledge of the dairy industry, poise and personality; and
WHEREAS, From all of the speeches delivered by pageant contestants,
Emily Ooms' prepared speech was recognized by the judges as the best
one; and
WHEREAS, As State Dairy Princess, Emily Ooms will receive a scholar-
ship and represent the American Dairy Association and Dairy Council,
Inc. at county dairy princess pageants, farm meetings and special events
throughout New York State; she will continue to spread the message of
the importance of agriculture and she will help train new county promo-
ters at seminars and workshops; and
WHEREAS, The crowning of Emily Ooms as New York State Dairy Princess,
builds upon her past agriculture experiences; her family owns and oper-
ates A.Ooms and Sons Farm in Valatie, New York, Columbia County, where
Emily has been an active member of the local dairy industry; and
WHEREAS, Rare indeed is the impressive dedication which Emily Ooms has
demonstrated in achieving the title of 2016-2017 New York State Dairy
Princess; she has stood constant in dignity, good grace and humor; and
WHEREAS, Emily Ooms exemplifies the best potential inherent in our
most precious resource, our youth; she has brought enduring honor to her
family, local community and to the State of New York, and should be
recognized and saluted by all the citizens of this great Empire State;
now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
congratulate Emily Ooms upon the occasion of being crowned the 2016-2017
New York State Dairy Princess; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Emily Ooms.
