LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Deborah Hallen Zelinsky upon the occa-
sion of her designation for special recognition by Congregation Mount
Sinai on June 8, 2016

WHEREAS, Individuals who give of their time and energies and serve the
best interests of their communities are an asset beyond remuneration and
cannot be sufficiently extolled; and
WHEREAS, Deborah Hallen Zelinsky has given not only of her time and
energies but also of her competence, intelligence and leadership and
consequently has been designated for special honor; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Deborah Hallen
Zelinsky upon the occasion of her designation for special recognition by
Congregation Mount Sinai, to be celebrated at its Roaring '20s Spring
Gala on Wednesday, June 8, 2016, in Brooklyn Heights, New York; and
WHEREAS, Deborah Hallen Zelinsky has been called upon to contribute
her time and talents to countless civic and charitable endeavors and has
always given of herself unstintingly; and
WHEREAS, A teacher for 36 years in the New York City Public School
System, Deborah Hallen Zelinsky is a true asset to her community; she
has worked with the Friends of the Brooklyn Heights Branch Library since
1993, and currently serves as its president; and
WHEREAS, In addition, Deborah Hallen Zelinsky volunteers at the Brook-
lyn Family Justice Center, Domestic Violence Unit, Children's Room and
Congregation Mount Sinai; she is a lifetime member of the Association of
Orthodox Jewish Teachers, of Hadassah, and the National Council of
Jewish Women; and
WHEREAS, A New York State Mediator and a UFT Chapter Leader, Deborah
Hallen Zelinsky laid the groundwork for the New York State SAVE Legis-
lation; and
WHEREAS, During her PhD work in Early Childhood Education, Deborah
Hallen Zelinsky was inducted into Phi Delta Kappa, the professional
fraternity in education, and Pi Kappa Lamda, the national music honor
society; and
WHEREAS, Deborah Hallen Zelinsky has been a devoted member of Congre-
gation Mount Sinai for 32 years; she has served on the board of trus-
tees, donated valuable time to various committees at the synagogue, and
currently supports the work of the community through ongoing volunteer-
ism; and
WHEREAS, With her throughout have been her husband, Paul Zelinsky, and
their two daughters, all of whom feel privileged to be a part of her
life and rejoice in her achievements; and
WHEREAS, Throughout the entire period of her community service, a
period of constructive involvement, Deborah Hallen Zelinsky has stood
constant in dignity, good grace and humor; and
WHEREAS, Rare indeed is the impressive dedication shown by an individ-
ual for the benefit of others which Deborah Hallen Zelinsky has
displayed throughout her life; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Deborah Hallen Zelinsky upon the occasion of her designation for
special recognition by Congregation Mount Sinai on June 8, 2016; and be
it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Deborah Hallen Zelinsky.
