LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Ruth H. Leeson upon the occasion of her
designation as recipient of a Liberty Medal, the highest honor bestowed
upon an individual by the New York State Senate

WHEREAS, It is incumbent upon the people of the State of New York to
recognize and acknowledge those within our midst who have made signif-
icant contributions to the quality of life therein; and
WHEREAS, From time to time this Legislative Body takes note of certain
extraordinary individuals it wishes to recognize for their valued
contributions to the success and progress of society and publicly
acknowledge their endeavors which have enhanced the basic humanity among
us all; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Ruth H. Leeson
upon the occasion of her designation as recipient of a Liberty Medal,
the highest honor bestowed upon an individual by the New York State
Senate, to be celebrated at the Rensselaer Honor-A-Veteran Ceremony; and
WHEREAS, The New York State Senate Liberty Medal was established by
resolution and is awarded to individuals who have merited special
commendation for exceptional, heroic, or humanitarian acts on behalf of
their fellow New Yorkers; and
WHEREAS, Ruth H. Leeson was born to Sanford C. and Pauline Reno
Horton, in Albany, New York; she was raised in East Greenbush, New York,
where she graduated from Columbia High School in 1941; and
WHEREAS, On November 24, 1943, Ruth H. Leeson proudly enlisted in the
United States Marine Corps and headed to Camp Lejeune, North Carolina,
where she successfully completed Basic Training; she then went to Celes-
trial Navigation Training in Atlanta, Georgia, and became a Link Trainer
Instructor in Cherry Point, North Carolina; and
WHEREAS, After her discharge from the United States Marine Corps on
November 23, 1945, Ruth H. Leeson returned to the United States and
attended Nursing School; after graduation, she was employed as a
Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) in the Intensive Care Unit at Albany
Medical Center, and later, at the Albany Stratton VA Medical Center; and
WHEREAS, Dedicated to veterans' causes, Ruth H. Leeson is a vital
member of the Melvin Roads American Legion Post and the Captain William
Dale O'Brien Marine Corps League Detachment; in addition, she belongs to
the Fort Crailo Daughters of American Revolution; and
WHEREAS, With her throughout have been her two wonderful children,
Suzie and JB; her six treasured grandchildren, and 14 great-grandchil-
dren; as well as her late husband, Edward R. Leeson, all of whom have
felt privileged to be a part of her life and rejoice in her accomplish-
ments; and
WHEREAS, Having exhibited her patriotism both at home and abroad, Ruth
H. Leeson demonstrated her love for her country and merits forevermore
the highest respect of her State and Nation; and
WHEREAS, Our Nation's veterans deserve to be recognized, commended and
thanked by the people of the State of New York for their service and for
their dedication to their communities, their State and their Nation;
now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Ruth H. Leeson upon the occasion of her designation as recipient
of a Liberty Medal, the highest honor bestowed upon an individual by the
New York State Senate; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Ruth H. Leeson.
