LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commemorating the 10th Anniversary of the Milton
Train Station Foundation, Milton, New York, on October 16, 2016
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize that the
quality and character of life in the communities across the great State
of New York is reflective of certain exemplary institutions whose
purpose is dedicated to serving the community and the needs of its citi-
zenry; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to commem-
orate the 10th Anniversary of the Milton Train Station Foundation,
Milton, New York; this auspicious occasion will be marked with a Cele-
bration on Sunday, October 16, 2016, at the Powelton Club in Newburgh,
New York; and
WHEREAS, In 2006, the Town of Marlborough undertook the responsibility
of restoring the 1883 West Shore Railroad Station in the hamlet of
Milton, New York; and
WHEREAS, The Town secured National Historic Designation for the site
and enlisted the help of a group of citizens that became the non-profit
Milton Train Station Foundation; the group was able to raise a substan-
tial amount of money and invest 10,000 plus hours in the Train Station's
rehabilitation while working largely with volunteer labor; and
WHEREAS, Some of the improvements to the Milton-On-Hudson Train
Station included installing an HVAC system, connecting 200 amp elec-
trical services, hooking into municipal water and sewer, adding insu-
lation, installing 2 ADA compliant bathrooms while still preserving
flooring, wainscoting, molding, windows and doors in a historically
correct manner as well as replacement of the metal standing seam roof
with historic gable facades and restoration of the board and batten
exterior finish; and
WHEREAS, Through the concerted effort of public officials, foundations
and private individuals, the Town of Marlborough has been able to reha-
bilitate the Milton-On-Hudson Train Station, which is the only historic
railroad station on the western shore of the Hudson River still open to
the public; and
WHEREAS, Today, the Milton-On-Hudson Train Station has been trans-
formed into a community center for the enjoyment of the natural, scenic
and cultural resources in the Hudson Valley; and
WHEREAS, The success enjoyed by the Milton-On-Hudson Train Station is
in direct correlation to the efforts of the Foundation, whose involve-
ment is and has always been characterized by an impressive commitment,
an unbridled enthusiasm, and an uncompromising standard of excellence in
all of their efforts on behalf of the Train Station and the population
it serves; and
WHEREAS, Steeped in a proud and distinguished history, the Milton-On-
Hudson Train Station may take just pride in its purposeful growth as it
looks forward to continuing to serve the educational, cultural and
intellectual needs of the community; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commemorate the 10th Anniversary of the Milton Train Station Foundation,
Milton, New York, on October 16, 2016; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to the Milton Train Station Foundation.
