LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commending Don Paul upon the occasion of his
retirement after 32 years as a Television Meteorologist in Buffalo, New
York

WHEREAS, It is the practice of this Legislative Body to acknowledge
those outstanding individuals within our midst whose dedication and
professional endeavors have enhanced the quality of life in this great
Empire State; and
WHEREAS, Meteorologists who have dedicated their lives to explaining,
understanding, observing or forecasting the earth's atmospheric phenome-
na and/or how the atmosphere affects the earth and life on the planet
merit recognition from the State of New York; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to commend
Don Paul upon the occasion of his retirement after 32 years as a Tele-
vision Meteorologist in Buffalo, New York; and
WHEREAS, As a young man, Don Paul was inspired by New York City
Meteorologist, Tex Antoine to study meteorology at Rutgers University;
during this time, he worked at the college radio station; and
WHEREAS, Upon graduation, Don Paul attended law school for a year, and
wrote jokes for WNEW radio comedian Ted Brown, before deciding to be a
TV station meteorologist in his late 20s; and
WHEREAS, After a tour of duty in the United States Military, Don Paul
held various positions such as promo writer for a New York radio
station, science writer and account executive for a public relations
agency; and
WHEREAS, Don Paul began his illustrious television career in Bangor,
Maine, before moving on to major cities such as Wichita, Kansas; Tampa,
Florida; and Detroit, Michigan; in 1984, he relocated to Buffalo to
replace Lou McNally on Channel 4, just in time to report on the Buffalo
Blizzard of 1985; and
WHEREAS, In 1988, Don Paul left Channel 4 for Channel 2, a job he held
for three years, before rejoining Channel 4 in 1991, where he would
remain for the duration of his 32-year career, a position from which he
officially retired on March 23, 2016; and
WHEREAS, Dedicated to his profession and his community, Don Paul
always strived to use his meteorological skills to accurately predict
the weather for the residents of Buffalo; he says a competent meteorol-
ogist is generally accurate about eight of 10 times, and six of 10 times
when they are tough calls; and
WHEREAS, For over three decades, Don Paul's face appeared on numerous
television screens in the Buffalo area; known for his wit, humor, and
sunny personality, he is an institution in Western New York Meteorology,
and his presence on television will be greatly missed by many; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that those who
enhance the quality of life in their community and have shown a long and
sustained commitment to the maintenance of high standards in their
profession, certainly have earned the recognition and applause of all
the citizens of this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend Don Paul upon the occasion of his retirement after 32 years as a
Television Meteorologist in Buffalo, New York, and to wish him continued
success in all his future endeavors; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Don Paul.
