LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commending Congregation Beth-El of Massapequa,
New York for 60 years of dedicated service to the community be cele-
brated on June 26, 2016

WHEREAS, Religious institutions, and the many spiritual, social and
educational benefits they confer, play a vital role in the development
of the moral fabric of a responsible citizenry; and
WHEREAS, It is the tradition of this State and this Nation to pay
tribute to those institutions and individuals who have contributed to
the ethical and spiritual values of their communities; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to commend Congregation
Beth-El of Massapequa, New York for 60 years of dedicated service to the
community; they will be closing their doors and merging with Bellmore
Jewish Centre; this new congregation will be called Congregation Beth
Ohr and a sacred Ceremony will take place on Sunday, June 26, 2016, to
move the Torahs from Beth-El to its new home; and
WHEREAS, After six decades of steadfast and unwavering service to the
community of Massapequa, Congregation Beth-El has been officially
authorized to merge its congregation with the Bellmore Jewish Center to
become Congregation Beth Ohr; and
WHEREAS, Congregation Beth-El eagerly looks forward to its future as a
strong, vibrant, egalitarian Conservative Jewish congregation; and
WHEREAS, This new congregation is prepared to meet the challenges of
the coming decades while retaining that spiritual resolve which charac-
terizes its past; and
WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to take note of
enduring religious institutions and to bring such institutions to the
attention of the people of this Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend Congregation Beth-El of Massapequa, New York for 60 years of
dedicated service to the community be celebrated on June 26, 2016; and
be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Congregation Beth-El.
