LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Jerry Wind upon the occasion of his
designation as recipient of a Liberty Medal, the highest honor bestowed
upon an individual by the New York State Senate

WHEREAS, It is incumbent upon the people of the State of New York to
recognize and acknowledge those within our midst who have made signif-
icant contributions to the quality of life therein; and
WHEREAS, From time to time this Legislative Body takes note of certain
extraordinary individuals it wishes to recognize for their valued
contributions to the success and progress of society and publicly
acknowledge their endeavors which have enhanced the basic humanity among
us all; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Jerry Wind
upon the occasion of his designation as recipient of a Liberty Medal,
the highest honor bestowed upon an individual by the New York State
Senate; and
WHEREAS, The New York State Senate Liberty Medal was established by
resolution and is awarded to individuals who have merited special
commendation for exceptional, heroic, or humanitarian acts on behalf of
their fellow New Yorkers; and
WHEREAS, Born on March 15, 1949, Jerry Wind grew up in the Castle Hill
section of the Bronx, New York; even at the young age of 10, he was a
hard worker; throughout his school years, he held numerous part-time
jobs; and
WHEREAS, In 1970, Jerry Wind began working as a Customer Service
Representative at Con Edison; eight years later, he was promoted to the
title of Energy Services Representative (Inspector), a position he held
until his retirement in 2006; and
WHEREAS, In 1975, Jerry Wind married his wife, Nadine, and they moved
to their present home in Bellerose, New York; and
WHEREAS, Inspired by his mother, who served as President of the P.S.
36 PTA for eight years, Jerry Wind has been an integral and active part
of his community for numerous years; and
WHEREAS, Within a week of his arrival in Bellerose, Jerry Wind joined
the Bellerose Hillside Civic Association; he was promptly elected Corre-
sponding Secretary, and in 2000, was elected to the office of President,
a title which he continues to hold; and
WHEREAS, In 2007, Jerry Wind was appointed to Community Board 13, and
a few years later, he began serving as Executive Secretary; in addition,
he holds the position of co-Chair of the Seniors and Special Needs
Committee and is a member of the Land Use and Public Safety Committees
of the Community Board; and
WHEREAS, A true public servant, Jerry Wind is also a member of the
Community Advisory Committee of Martin Van Buren High School and the
Board of Health Care Choices, which runs two clinics and a veteran's
shelter; in the past, he served as the Chair of the Community Advisory
Committee of the Milestone Residence on the Creedmoor Southern Campus
until its closing a few years ago; and
WHEREAS, Over the years, Jerry Wind has volunteered in the NYC Parti-
cipatory Budgeting program and participated in numerous demonstrations
and meetings aimed at bettering his community and quality of life; and
WHEREAS, Individuals such as Jerry Wind, devoted to improving the
quality of life for others, enabling them to build lives of dignity and
self-worth, are deserving of the highest praise and recognition; now,
therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Jerry Wind upon the occasion of his designation as recipient of a

Liberty Medal, the highest honor bestowed upon an individual by the New
York State Senate; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Jerry Wind.
