LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION congratulating Bob Heins, Class of 1971, upon the
occasion of his induction into the 2014 SUNY Orange Colt Athletic Hall
of Fame

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to honor those indi-
viduals whose exceptional athletic prowess leaves an enduring legacy in
their communities; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to congratu-
late Bob Heins, Class of 1971, upon the occasion of his induction into
the 2014 SUNY Orange Colt Athletic Hall of Fame, which was celebrated at
a ceremony on Saturday, November 8, 2014, at Kuhl's Highland House,
Middletown, New York; and
WHEREAS, The SUNY Orange Colt Athletic Hall of Fame recognizes those
individuals, who, through outstanding achievement in athletics or
service, have made lasting contributions to its sports program and the
overall community; and
WHEREAS, Bob Heins, a member of the Class of 1971, played on the SUNY
Orange Golf teams during both the 1970 and 1971 seasons; he was selected
as the Mid-Hudson Conference Most Valuable Player in 1971, and was a
two-time runner-up at the Region XV tournament; and
WHEREAS, Bob Heins qualified for the national tournament during each
of his two seasons, and led his team on an impressive streak of 39
straight duel match victories; and
WHEREAS, Following graduation, Bob Heins went on to compete at the
University of Florida alongside such notable players as Gary Koch, Andy
North, Phil Hancock and Woody Blackburn; and
WHEREAS, A successful professional golfer, Bob Heins twice earned
Metropolitan PGA Player of the Year honors, and is a six-time Met PGA
Senior Player of the Year; and
WHEREAS, In addition, Bob Heins has been the Head Professional at Old
Oaks Country Club in Purchase, New York, for more than 30 years; and
WHEREAS, The recipient of numerous accolades and honors, Bob Heins was
named the 2000 Metropolitan PGA Professional of the Year, and has earned
the Bill Strausbaugh Award three times for his work with employment and
club relations; and
WHEREAS, Furthermore, Bob Heins was recognized by the PGA's Metropol-
itan Golf Association Board as its 2008 Teacher of the Year, and was
elected to the Metropolitan Golf Association Hall of Fame in 2010; and
WHEREAS, Athletes such as Bob Heins provide a tremendous service to
the future of our State and Nation, inspiring generations of student-
athletes in their athletic journeys and ensuring their success in their
future years; and
WHEREAS, Bob Heins has clearly been an inspiration to the youth of
SUNY Orange, as well as to the community-at-large, and accordingly
merits recognition and applause for his impressive dedication to others;
and
WHEREAS, Sports competition instills the values of teamwork, pride and
accomplishment, and Bob Heins has clearly made a contribution to the
spirit of excellence which is a tradition of his school; now, therefore,
be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
congratulate Bob Heins, Class of 1971, upon the occasion of his
induction into the 2014 SUNY Orange Colt Athletic Hall of Fame; and be
it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Bob Heins.
