LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Dorothy Forte upon the occasion of her
designation as recipient of a Liberty Medal, the highest honor bestowed
upon an individual by the New York State Senate

WHEREAS, It is incumbent upon the people of the State of New York to
recognize and acknowledge those within our midst who have made signif-
icant contributions to the quality of life therein; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern and in accord with its long-stand-
ing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Dorothy
Forte upon the occasion of her designation as recipient of a Liberty
Medal, the highest honor bestowed upon an individual by the New York
State Senate; and
WHEREAS, The New York State Senate Liberty Medal was established by a
resolution in 2014 and is awarded to individuals who have merited
special commendation for exceptional, heroic, or humanitarian acts on
behalf of their fellow New Yorkers; and
WHEREAS, Dorothy Forte is a founding member of the Manhasset Women's
Coalition Against Breast Cancer (MWCABC), an all-volunteer, non-profit
organization founded in 1997 with a mission to fund innovative research,
increase awareness and provide support services to those with breast
cancer and related diseases; and
WHEREAS, For 18 years, Dorothy Forte has loyally served on the organ-
ization's board of directors in such capacities as Director and Execu-
tive Vice-President; and
WHEREAS, In 2004, this esteemed woman founded the MWCABC Outreach
Program to focus on helping members of the Manhasset and nearby communi-
ties who are coping with breast cancer; she has served as Director of
the program since its inception, assisting breast cancer patients by
providing information and emotional support, as well as relief from
day-to-day stresses; and
WHEREAS, Dorothy Forte's commitment to helping those with breast
cancer was further illustrated through her founding of the MWCABC
Outreach Extended Cancer Care Program in 2009; this initiative offers
such support services as transportation to and from medical appoint-
ments, meals for the family, housecleaning, financial assistance and
wellness services to those battling the affliction; and
WHEREAS, A vital part of numerous civic organizations, Dorothy Forte
has recently concluded a two year appointment as a member of the New
York State Breast and Cervical Cancer Detection and Education Program
Advisory Council; and
WHEREAS, Throughout the entire period of her community service, a
period of constructive involvement, Dorothy Forte has stood constant in
dignity, good grace and humor; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when individ-
uals of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our atten-
tion, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens of
this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Dorothy Forte upon the occasion of her designation as recipient of
a Liberty Medal, the highest honor bestowed upon an individual by the
New York State Senate; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Dorothy Forte.
