LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commemorating the 40th Anniversary of St.
Stephen's Consignment Shop on October 25, 2014

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize that the
quality and character of life in the communities across New York State
are enhanced by the concerned and dedicated efforts of business organ-
izations and individuals that generously contribute to the welfare of
the community and its citizenry; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to commem-
orate the 40th Anniversary of St. Stephen's Consignment Shop, celebrated
with a ribbon-cutting ceremony and blessing by Father Stuart Huntley on
Saturday, October 25, 2014; and
WHEREAS, St. Stephen's Consignment Shop opened in 1974, as the 50-50
Shop at St. Stephen's Church in Port Washington, New York; and
WHEREAS, For four decades, St. Stephen's Consignment Shop has helped
people dress well, save money and re-purpose their unwanted goods
while helping others in the community; and
WHEREAS, A true asset to the community, St. Stephen's Consignment Shop
is known for its great finds and bargains in new and gently used cloth-
ing, shoes and housewares; items are donated, or consigned, with consig-
nors receiving 50 percent of the item's selling price; and
WHEREAS, Under the luminous direction of Store Manager Diana Gendron,
proceeds from the shop go to support the mission of the church and all
the community activities that take place at St. Stephen's, including the
after school children's program, senior program, scouting, music, baby
supply exchange, AA, and youth group; and
WHEREAS, This auspicious occasion presents a unique opportunity for
this Legislative Body to recognize and pay tribute to St. Stephen's
Consignment Shop of Port Washington, New York; and
WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to recognize illus-
trious establishments which have positively impacted and substantially
contributed to the vitality of their communities; and
WHEREAS, It is with great pleasure that this Legislative Body acknowl-
edges St. Stephen's Consignment Shop's contributions to the community,
and extends its highest commendation to this business, fully confident
that it will continue to enjoy the sparkling success it has enjoyed thus
far; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commemorate the 40th Anniversary of St. Stephen's Consignment Shop on
October 25, 2014; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to St. Stephen's Consignment Shop, Port Washington, New York.
