LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commending 25 seniors from the Great Neck Public
Schools upon the occasion of being named Semifinalists in the presti-
gious 2015 National Merit Scholarship Competition

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize and pay
tribute to those young people within the great Empire State who have
achieved outstanding educational success and serve as role models for
their peers; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to commend 25
seniors from the Great Neck Public Schools upon the occasion of being
named Semifinalists in the prestigious 2015 National Merit Scholarship
Competition; and
WHEREAS, The National Merit Scholarship Program honors individual
students who show exceptional academic ability and potential for success
in rigorous college studies; these Semifinalists, who represent less
than one percent of seniors in New York State, will be identified to
colleges and universities in order to increase their educational oppor-
tunities; and
WHEREAS, Semifinalists from John L. Miller-Great Neck North High
School are: Daniel Hanover, Elliot Kohanbash, Nathaniel Libman, Jessy
Lin, Evan Mironov, Cuilee Sha, Eric Wang, Matthew Wigler, and Jonathan
Windsor; and
WHEREAS, Semifinalists from William A. Shine-Great Neck South High
School are: Christine An, Justin Chen, Esther Cho, Rachel Coons, Brett
Dieber, Aaron Engel, Danna Greenberg, Jin Hyup (Joseph) Hong, Andrew Hu,
William Huh, Casey Li, Wan Kyoo Noh, Hamsavardhaan Pillai, Katie Tan,
Samuel Tokar, and Jay Zussman; and
WHEREAS, These Semifinalists are among the 16,000 named nationwide,
having scored among the highest in New York State on the Preliminary
SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT), which they
took last year; and
WHEREAS, These superb students of singular distinction and superlative
abilities, have established high standards of academic excellence and
purposefulness of life rarely achieved in youthful years; and
WHEREAS, Poised eagerly with enthusiasm and determined purpose, these
Semifinalists now stand honorably, with just pride in their accomplish-
ments and in eager anticipation of future challenges, understanding and
appreciating the caring counsel and support provided by their teachers,
coaches and parents; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor 25 seniors from the Great Neck Public Schools, and extend to each
and every one of them its best wishes for a future of purposeful success
and well-being, fully confident of their response to a promising future
and appreciative of the model they represent for all aspiring young
people of the Empire State; and be it further
RESOLVED, That copies of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to the aforementioned Semifinalists, John L. Miller-Great Neck
North High School, and William A. Shine-Great Neck South High School.
