LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION mourning the untimely death of Amir H. Billups,
former exceptional basketball player and devoted member of his community

WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is deeply moved to inscribe upon its
records the remembrance for Amir H. Billups, a young man who had a keen
sense of humor and a caring and dedicated concern for others; and
WHEREAS, It is with feelings of deep regret that this Legislative Body
mourns the untimely death of Amir H. Billups of Lockport, New York, who
died on Saturday, February 14, 2015, at the age of 24; and
WHEREAS, A former standout basketball player, for four years Amir H.
Billups was a member of the Starpoint Varsity Basketball Team, graduat-
ing in 2008; and
WHEREAS, This remarkable athlete was among NCAA Division III leaders
for three-point shooting percentage as a senior at Fredonia State; and
WHEREAS, In addition, Amir H. Billups was a member of the Buffalo
716ers semi-pro team; in 2013, he led the team in scoring during the Los
Angeles Summer Pro League where he was ranked in the top five in scor-
ing, and earned an All-Star selection; and
WHEREAS, Amir H. Billups's outstanding performance in the Los Angeles
Summer Pro League earned him a private workout with the Bakersfield Jam,
a team in the NBA Development League; and
WHEREAS, Amir H. Billups embodied countless attributes including good
judgment and a positive attitude, coupled with a drive to help others;
and
WHEREAS, He will truly be missed by his family members, many friends
and all those he came in contact with throughout the years including his
coaches, teammates, and fellow athletes; and
WHEREAS, Armed with a humanistic spirit and imbued with a sense of
compassion, Amir H. Billups leaves behind a legacy which will long
endure the passage of time and will remain as a comforting memory to all
he befriended; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
mourn the untimely death of Amir H. Billups, and to send sincerest
condolences to his family; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to the family of Amir H. Billups.
