LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION congratulating June Florence Carlson Wahlberg
upon the occasion of celebrating her 100th Birthday

WHEREAS, It is the intent of this Legislative Body to commemorate and
recognize certain milestones celebrated by citizens of this great Nation
and Empire State; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to congratu-
late June Florence Carlson Wahlberg of Lakewood, New York, upon the
occasion of celebrating her 100th Birthday; and
WHEREAS, June was born on February 6, 1915, in Jamestown, New York, to
Edward and Ebba Carlson; and
WHEREAS, June was baptized and confirmed at Zion Covenant Church, in
Jamestown; and
WHEREAS, She graduated from Jamestown High School in 1932; today, she
serves as a member of the JHS Class of 1932 Reunion Committee and the
JHS 100 Member Club; and
WHEREAS, On July 8, 1933, June married A. John Wahlberg; over the next
49 years the couple raised their three children, Edward John (Jack),
Diane and Jim; and
WHEREAS, The couple has been further blessed with nine grandchildren
and 11 great-grandchildren; and
WHEREAS, June Wahlberg has been active in numerous civic organiza-
tions, including as a member of the Ashville Methodist Church, the Meth-
odist Women's Society, the Jamestown PTA, the WCA Hospital Auxiliary,
the American Cancer Society, Fenton History Center, Society for the
Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, Lakewood Women's Club, Norden Women's
Club, and the Thule Lodge; and
WHEREAS, Always an active woman, June Wahlberg was an avid skier until
the age of 85; she also rode snowmobiles weekly in the winter from her
70s until the age of 99; in addition, she was a talented golfer who sunk
a hole-in-one in 1986; and
WHEREAS, Included in her active lifestyle, June Wahlberg enjoyed ice-
boating with her companion, Red Garfield, with whom she went on 38
cruises; and
WHEREAS, At the age of 100, June Wahlberg maintains an active life-
style, playing bridge twice a month as she has done for 75 years,
attending senior aerobics three times a week, and maintaining a standing
Saturday lunch with friends at the local rod and gun club; and
WHEREAS, It is the intent of this Legislative Body to publicly recog-
nize and honor the lives of beloved citizens who have reached a remark-
able age and who have witnessed and celebrated the innovations, cultural
developments, and awesome achievements of this country during the last
century; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
congratulate June Florence Carlson Wahlberg upon the occasion of cele-
brating her 100th Birthday; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to June Wahlberg.
