LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commemorating St. Mary School in East Islip, New
York, for 100 years of Catholic Education to be celebrated at its
Centennial Anniversary Principal's Gala on March 14, 2015

WHEREAS, It is the practice of this Legislative Body to recognize and
honor those institutions and their leadership whose true purpose and
faithful endeavors contribute significantly to the education and prepa-
ration of the youth who will comprise the future strength and vision of
this great Empire State; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to commemorate St.
Mary School in East Islip, New York, for 100 years of Catholic Education
to be celebrated at its Centennial Anniversary Principal's Gala at
Chateau La Mer, Lindenhurst, New York, on Saturday, March 14, 2015; and
WHEREAS, This auspicious event will enable the St. Mary community to
reflect on the founding philosophy and principles of the school, which
is to nurture students in the Catholic faith as they pursue academic
excellence, and pay tribute to Founder/Father Joseph Sinkmajer; and
WHEREAS, In addition, St. Mary School is excited to honor Fred and
GinaMarie Bianculli and Joseph and Maureen Szabo, and to extend their
utmost gratitude to the School Sisters of Notre Dame, Reverend Donald E.
Babinski, Principal Biagio M. Arpino, and the countless administrators,
faculty and staff who, for the past 100 years, have instilled a faith-
filled education in the lives of so many, and who continue to pave the
way for our future leaders; and
WHEREAS, St. Mary School's 100th Anniversary will be feted throughout
the year; this momentous occasion began on September 19, 2014, when
Father Donald E. Babinski presided at a Mass for the students of St.
Mary School; after the service, everyone viewed a wonderful presentation
on the life of the school's founding father, Father Joseph Sinkmajer;
and
WHEREAS, On September 21, 2014, Bishop Nelson J. Perez, Auxiliary
Bishop of Rockville Centre-Eastern Vicariate, concelebrated St. Mary
School's 100th Anniversary Opening Liturgy; Sisters of Notre Dame Mary
Henry Gatsby, Mary Teresa McGrory, Mary Adele Shea, and John Vianney
Zullo, former teachers, staff, clergy, alumni, and current faculty and
students gathered to celebrate this momentous milestone; and
WHEREAS, Numerous events commemorating St. Mary School's milestone
will be held throughout the year including a holiday concert, a Night of
100 Careers, A Night with Father Charles Mangano, the first St.
Patrick's Day parade and brunch, Arbor Day festivities, Taste of the
Town, and a family and alumni barbecue; and
WHEREAS, Today, St. Mary School is under the luminous direction of
Principal Biagio M. Arpino; throughout these evolving years of growth
and development, St. Mary School has remained true to its commitment to
provide optimal facilities for learning, the broadest range of profes-
sionally accredited programs, and the maintenance of an outstanding
teaching faculty; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to join with St.
Mary School in the celebration of its 100th Anniversary, recognizing, on
this auspicious occasion, that the quality and dignity of life are
empowered by the faithful and diligent efforts of such noble insti-
tutions of learning; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor and commend St. Mary School upon the historic occasion of its
100th Anniversary, noting the propriety of its goals, the constancy of
its commitment and the significance of its accomplishments, in preparing
the youth of today and the leaders of tomorrow; and be it further

RESOLVED, That copies of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Principal Biagio M. Arpino, and the aforementioned honorees.
