LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Sergeant Richard Angeletti upon the
occasion of his designation as recipient of the President's Award from
the National Police Defense Foundation on May 6, 2015
WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to recognize those
individuals of preeminent character whose lives exemplify the highest
ideals of humanity and whose lifework and civic endeavor serve to
enhance the quality of life in their communities and the great State of
New York; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
Sergeant Richard Angeletti upon the occasion of his designation as
recipient of the President's Award by the National Police Defense Foun-
dation to be celebrated at its Annual Awards Dinner at Russo's on the
Bay in Howard Beach, New York, on Wednesday, May 6, 2015; and
WHEREAS, On January 13, 1991, Richard Angeletti was appointed to the
New York Police Department (NYPD); he was then assigned to the 24th
Precinct on the Upper West Side of Manhattan where he successfully
completed several different assignments including community policing,
bicycle patrol, and traffic safety; and
WHEREAS, In 1997, Officer Richard Angeletti was transferred to Highway
Patrol No. 1 in the Bronx and became the Columbia Association trustee
for that borough; and
WHEREAS, Two years later, Officer Richard Angeletti was promoted to
the rank of Sergeant and assigned to the 19th Precinct in Manhattan; in
this capacity, he was in charge of the Cabaret Team which was responsi-
ble for enforcement of the laws pertaining to the numerous licensed
premises on the Upper East Side; and
WHEREAS, Later that year, Sergeant Richard Angeletti transferred to
the Manhattan North Task Force, where he remained until early 2001; and
WHEREAS, In 2001, Sergeant Richard Angeletti returned to the Highway
Patrol and was assigned to the now defunct Highway Patrol No. 4, a high-
ly specialized unit tasked with the responsibility of patrolling Midtown
Manhattan on motorcycles; and
WHEREAS, The following year, Sergeant Richard Angeletti moved on to
the elite Accident Investigation Squad of the Highway District, known
today as the Collision Investigation Squad; this unit is responsible for
investigating motor vehicle accidents where someone is seriously injured
and likely to die or has been killed in Manhattan or the Bronx; and
WHEREAS, From June 2003 through October 2005, Sergeant Angeletti was
employed as a member of the Police Commissioner Security Detail; and
WHEREAS, Well-known and highly respected throughout the law enforce-
ment field, Sergeant Richard Angeletti has been a vital part of the
Columbia Association for 23 years; he has been a member of the Board for
18 years and has held numerous positions, including Manhattan Financial
Secretary, 2nd Vice President, and currently, President; and
WHEREAS, A man of singular distinction, Richard Angeletti has contin-
ually demonstrated extreme competence, extraordinary intelligence and
diligent leadership in his unwavering service to his community and
profession and consequently has been designated for this most presti-
gious award; and
WHEREAS, Rare indeed is the occurrence of such a compassionate blend-
ing of strength, intellect and commitment as that demonstrated by Rich-
ard Angeletti over a lifetime of sacrifice and dedication to others; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that those who
enhance the well-being and vitality of their community and have shown a
long and sustained commitment to excellence certainly have earned the
recognition and applause of all the citizens of this great Empire State;
now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Sergeant Richard Angeletti upon the occasion of his designation as
recipient of the President's Award from the National Police Defense
Foundation on May 6, 2015; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Richard Angeletti.
