LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Bhawin Suchak upon the occasion of his
designation as recipient of the Carol S. Knox Award by the Capital
Region Chapter of the New York Civil Liberties Union

WHEREAS, Individuals who give of their time and energies and serve the
best interests of their communities are an asset beyond remuneration and
cannot be sufficiently extolled; and
WHEREAS, Bhawin Suchak has given not only of his time and energies but
also of his competence, intelligence and leadership and consequently has
been designated for special honor; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Bhawin Suchak
upon the occasion of his designation as recipient of the Carol S. Knox
Award by the Capital Region Chapter of the New York Civil Liberties
Union which was celebrated at its Annual Awards Ceremony on Wednesday,
November 12, 2014, at the Polish Community Center in Albany, New York;
and
WHEREAS, Bhawin Suchak received this auspicious award for his work
producing the documentary "The Throwaways," a movie which highlights the
plight of recently released prisoners; and
WHEREAS, The Capital Region Chapter of the New York Civil Liberties
Union educates the public about current civil liberties issues, responds
to requests for legal assistance, and advocates for and against local
legislation with civil liberties components; and
WHEREAS, Bhawin Suchak is the founder and program director of Youth
FX, a summer filmmaking program for teenagers based at Grand Street
Community Arts in Albany's Mansion Neighborhood; and
WHEREAS, For the past 15 years, Bhawin Suchak has been a media arts
teacher and Co-Director at the Albany Free School; and
WHEREAS, In addition, Bhawin Suchak has worked in youth programs in
digital film production and multimedia at Albany High School, Albany
Public Library, Sanctuary for Independent Media, and the New York State
Museum; and
WHEREAS, Bhawin Suchak has been called upon to contribute his time and
talents to countless civic and charitable endeavors and has always given
of himself unstintingly; and
WHEREAS, Throughout the entire period of his community service, a
period of constructive involvement, Bhawin Suchak has stood constant in
dignity, good grace and humor; and
WHEREAS, Rare indeed is the impressive dedication shown by an individ-
ual for the benefit of others which Bhawin Suchak has displayed through-
out his life; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Bhawin Suchak upon the occasion of his designation as recipient of
the Carol S. Knox Award by the Capital Region Chapter of the New York
Civil Liberties Union; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Bhawin Suchak.
