LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION paying tribute to the life and valiant service of
Montgomery Fire Department Fire Policeman Charles V. Wallace, who gave
the ultimate sacrifice on February 3, 2015

WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to pay tribute to
citizens of the State of New York whose lifework and civic endeavor
served to enhance the quality of life in their communities and the great
State of New York; and
WHEREAS, Citizens across our State and Nation are inspired by and
indebted to our noble firefighters who exhibit courage and bravery every
day in the course of their duties; Charles V. Wallace was one such fire-
fighter who died doing what he loved; and
WHEREAS, Charles V. Wallace of Montgomery, New York, died in the line
of duty on February 3, 2015, at the age of 74; and
WHEREAS, A native of Goshen, New York, Charles V. Wallace was born on
January 18, 1941, the son of the late Aaron Van Duzer Wallace Jr. and
Frances Hunington Wilson Wallace; and
WHEREAS, Charles V. Wallace proudly served his country as a member of
the United States Navy; he was also the owner and operator of the
Charles Wallace Surveying Company in Montgomery for many years; and
WHEREAS, In 1972, Charles V. Wallace first joined the Montgomery Fire
Department, where he rendered faithful, conscientious, and loyal service
to his community; he was also a member of the Wallkill Engine and Hose
Company No. 2; and
WHEREAS, Throughout the years this courageous individual continued to
serve the people of Orange County with diligence, honor, and
distinction;
WHEREAS, At the age of 73, Charles V. Wallace was present at 297 out
of 562 calls for the Montgomery Fire Department in 2014; and
WHEREAS, Charles V. Wallace was the recipient of numerous awards and
accolades for his outstanding service, including the 1978 Fireman of the
Year Award, the 2008 Montgomery Fire Department Life Saver Award, and
the 2012 Commissioner's Award for Outstanding Service; and
WHEREAS, Charles V. Wallace's commitment to excellence, and his spirit
of humanity, carried over into all fields of enterprise, including char-
itable and civic endeavors; and
WHEREAS, A dedicated public servant, Charles V. Wallace was a member
of the Montgomery Planning Board, Montgomery Master Plan Committee,
General Montgomery Day Committee, and the Montgomery Fireman's Fair
Committee; furthermore, he was Chairman of the Board of Commissioners
for the Montgomery Fire District, and a member of the American Legion;
and
WHEREAS, Predeceased by his parents, Charles V. Wallace is survived by
one brother, John (Mary); his loving wife, Julianne; their three daugh-
ters, Diana, Bonnie, and Susan (Gavin); and three grandchildren, Mark
(Cassie), Janelle, and Mathew; as well as one great-grandson, Jackson;
and
WHEREAS, Throughout his life, Fire Policeman Charles V. Wallace
touched many through his kindness and commitment to service, and, as we
recall the loss of this great man, we memorialize his remarkable life
and the enormous impact he had on everyone with whom he came in contact;
and
WHEREAS, It is the intent of this Legislative Body to convey its
grateful appreciation and heartfelt regret in recognition of the loss of
this courageous firefighter who dedicated his purposeful life and career
in faithful service to his family and community; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to pay
tribute to the life and valiant service of Montgomery Fire Department
Fire Policeman Charles V. Wallace, and to express its deepest condo-
lences to his family; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to the family of Fire Policeman Charles V. Wallace.
