LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commending Joanna Goldfarb upon the occasion of
her designation for special recognition by the 2014 SULLIVAN COUNTY
DEMOCRAT honoring Professional Women and Women in Business

WHEREAS, Individuals who give of their time and energies and serve the
best interests of their communities are an asset beyond remuneration and
cannot be sufficiently extolled; and
WHEREAS, Joanna Goldfarb has given not only of her time and energies
but also of her competence, intelligence and leadership and consequently
has been designated for special honor; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to commend Joanna Gold-
farb upon the occasion of her designation for special recognition by the
2014 SULLIVAN COUNTY DEMOCRAT honoring Professional Women and Women in
Business; and
WHEREAS, A graduate of Monticello High School in 2007, Joanna Goldfarb
received a Bachelor of Arts degree in English with a minor in Jewish
Studies from SUNY New Paltz in 2010, and a Master of Library Science
degree with a specialty in youth services from Queens College in 2013;
and
WHEREAS, For the past year and a half, Joanna Goldfarb has been an
employee of Ethelbert B. Crawford Public Library serving as Youth
Services Librarian Master; she plans, organizes, and markets programs
for children and teens, and each month she offers a diverse range of
activities which members of the community can participate in; and
WHEREAS, Other various duties of Joanna Goldfarb's job include helping
with advisory groups who brainstorm new programs, offering book
suggestions for developing the library's collection, and giving input on
the teen area of the new library building; she also leads the monthly
Book and Brews discussion group; and
WHEREAS, In addition, Joanna Goldfarb enjoys purchasing library mate-
rials for children and teens, compiling the library's quarterly newslet-
ter BEYOND THE BOOKENDS, participating in community outreach activities
such as visiting schools and attending community events, and being the
liaison to the Friends of the Library; and
WHEREAS, Some of Joanna Goldfarb's most rewarding aspects of her job
include when she orders a batch of books and they are checked out right
after they hit the shelf, or when someone comes in and says they enjoyed
the book they just read; she also relishes being able to attend events
including Book Expo of America, Comic Con, and the New York Library
Association Youth Services Section Conference; and
WHEREAS, Joanna Goldfarb's sparkling success is due in part to the
wonderful group of people she works with, as well as her library direc-
tor who is encouraging and supportive; and
WHEREAS, Active in her community, Joanna Goldfarb is the Co-Chair of
RCLS Teen Librarians, and is involved with Sullivan Striders; she is
also affiliated with the American Library Association, Young Adult
Library Services Association, Association for Library Services for Chil-
dren, New York Library Association, and Youth Services Section; and
WHEREAS, With her throughout have been her parents, a brother, and
many aunts, uncles, and cousins, all of whom feel privileged to be a
part of her life and rejoice in her achievements; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that those who
enhance the quality of life in their community and have shown a long and
sustained commitment to the maintenance of high standards in their
profession, certainly have earned the recognition and applause of all
the citizens of this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend Joanna Goldfarb upon the occasion of her designation for special
recognition by the 2014 SULLIVAN COUNTY DEMOCRAT honoring Professional
Women and Women in Business; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Joanna Goldfarb.
