LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commending outgoing President Won Chul Choi for
his outstanding service and commitment to the Korean Seafood Association
of New York, Inc. on March 21, 2015
WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to recognize and
commend the leaders of commerce and industry who contribute to the
economic health and prosperity and to the quality of life of the commu-
nities of the State of New York; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to commend,
outgoing President Won Chul Choi for his outstanding service and commit-
ment to the Korean Seafood Association of New York, Inc. (KSANY) to be
celebrated with a party on Saturday, March 21, 2015, at KumGanSan Manor,
Flushing, New York; and
WHEREAS, Since its inception in January 1977, KSANY has protected the
rights of Korean seafood retailers in the seafood business and provided
educational and financial support to local seafood businesses; and
WHEREAS, Won Chul Choi, elected as the 21st President of KSANY in
2013, has been a valued and involved member of KSANY for many years, and
has served the organization in numerous capacities, including most
recently as President; and
WHEREAS, Under his able leadership, KSANY held its annual Scholarship
Foundation Benefit Golf Tournament on April 23, 2013, and again on April
29, 2014, and as a result, each year, 15 students in need were offered a
scholarship; and
WHEREAS, On June 27, 2013, KSANY held a seminar to provide their
members with helpful information on minimum wage, overtime and other
topics related to employment and labor laws in New York; and
WHEREAS, Under Won Chul Choi's leadership, members of KSANY partic-
ipated in fundraising efforts to aid an employee at Hunts Point who was
suffering from cancer, and on July 12, 2013, KSANY donated a significant
amount to help manage his treatments; and
WHEREAS, Over the years, many Korean seafood retailers at Fulton Fish
Market have been the victims of unfair treatment and deceptive practices
by some wholesalers, who mislabel names, prices and weights of fish
offered for sale; Won Chul Choi's role has been instrumental in ensuring
that Korean seafood retailers' voices are heard and taken into consider-
ation; and
WHEREAS, Won Chul Choi has served KSANY and its members for the past
two years with dedication to protect the rights of Korean Americans in
the seafood business and foster positive relationships with other commu-
nities, including cultural groups, educational institutions, and govern-
mental agencies; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when individ-
uals of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our atten-
tion, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens of
the great State of New York; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend outgoing President Won Chul Choi for his outstanding service and
commitment to the Korean Seafood Association of New York, Inc. on March
21, 2015; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to outgoing President Won Chul Choi.
