LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION mourning the death of Domenico D'Angelo, distin-
guished citizen and devoted member of his community

WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to pay tribute to
citizens of the State of New York whose lifework and civic endeavor
served to enhance the quality of life in their communities and the great
State of New York; and
WHEREAS, Domenico D'Angelo of Williamsville, New York, died on Febru-
ary 10, 2015, at the age of 90, one week short of his 91st birthday; and
WHEREAS, Born February 17, 1925, in Canonsburg, Pennsylvania, the son
of the late Anthony and Nancy (Silvestri) D'Angelo, Domenico and his
family moved back to Italy in the late 1920s, before returning to Ameri-
ca in 1950; and
WHEREAS, Domenico D'Angelo earned both bachelor's and master's degrees
from the University of Bridgeport and Syracuse University, respectively;
he was also a graduate of the Istituto Magistrale (Teachers College) in
Pescara, Italy; and
WHEREAS, Domenico D'Angelo distinguished himself in his profession and
by his sincere dedication and substantial contribution to the welfare of
his community; and
WHEREAS, Domenico D'Angelo taught French and Latin at Newark Valley
High School, New York, retiring in 1984; and
WHEREAS, Domenico D'Angelo's commitment to excellence, and his spirit
of humanity, carried over into all fields of enterprise, including char-
itable and civic endeavors; and
WHEREAS, In 1988, Domenico D'Angelo was elected as a Tioga County
legislator and retired from that elective position in 1998, having
served the last two years as chairman of the Tioga County Legislature;
and
WHEREAS, While in Newark Valley, Domenico D'Angelo was a member of the
Village Planning Board and a Trustee of the Newark Valley Historical
Society; he served on the boards of Tioga United Way, Tioga Opportunity
Programs Inc., St. John's Pastoral Council and the Northern Tioga RO-KI
Club; and
WHEREAS, Furthermore, Domenico D'Angelo was active in Boy Scout Troop
30 for 25 years; in 1981, he received the Baden-Powell Boy Scout Coun-
cil's Silver Beaver Award for distinguished service to youth; and
WHEREAS, Predeceased by his wife, Jane (Salwoski) D'Angelo, and his
sister, Loretta Forte, Domenico D'Angelo moved to Williamsville in 1999,
with his son, John and his family; while there, he joined St. Gregory
the Great Catholic Church and its senior organization, and volunteered
for Boy Scout Troop 440 and Amherst Meals-on-Wheels; and
WHEREAS, Domenico D'Angelo is survived by his son, Anthony and his
wife, Deborah, and their daughters, Alison and Meredith; and his son,
John and his wife, Maureen, and their son, Domenico and daughter, Grace;
as well as several nieces and nephews and their children, with whom he
was very close; and
WHEREAS, Armed with a humanistic spirit and imbued with a sense of
compassion, Domenico D'Angelo leaves behind a legacy which will long
endure the passage of time and will remain as a comforting memory to all
he served and befriended; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
mourn the death of Domenico D'Angelo, distinguished citizen and devoted
member of his community; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to the family of Domenico D'Angelo.
