LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commending student-athlete Aidan Cohane upon the
occasion of capturing the 2016 New York State Overall Men's Alpine
Skiing Championship
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize and pay
tribute to those young people within the State of New York who, by
achieving outstanding success in athletic competition, have inspired and
brought pride to their school and community; and
WHEREAS, Aidan Cohane, a student at Windham-Ashland-Jewett (WAJ)
Central School, captured the New York State Overall Men's Alpine Skiing
Title by winning all four runs with an exceptional time of 1:31.17; and
WHEREAS, In addition, Aidan Cohane is a five-time Section IV Overall
Male Champion and a Slalom and Giant Slalom Champion; he is also unde-
feated in Section IV regular season competition since 2012, and has led
his team to its first and only state title in any sport; and
WHEREAS, The highest ranked public high school skier in the Eastern
United States, Aidan Cohane skis for Windham Mountain in the United
States Ski and Snowboard Association series where he has won the 2014
Under 16 State Championship and the 2015 Under 18 State Championship;
and
WHEREAS, After training and competing in Switzerland, and across the
United States and Canada, Aidan Cohane also currently competes on the
Federation Internationale Du Ski Circuit against many of the best skiers
from all over the world; and
WHEREAS, A gifted student-athlete, Aidan Cohane is active in four
varsity sports at his school, and is All-State in Alpine Skiing and
Baseball, and All-Delaware-League in Soccer and Golf; he has also won
numerous scholar athlete awards and maintains a 4.0 GPA while taking
many Advanced Placement and College Level courses; and
WHEREAS, This esteemed young man's overall record is outstanding and
he was loyally and enthusiastically supported by family, fans, friends
and the community at large; and
WHEREAS, Active in his school community, Aidan Cohane has served as
Vice President and President of the WAJ Student Body, and is a six-year
member and current Treasurer of the National Honor Society; and
WHEREAS, Moreover, Aidan is the President of The WAJ Senior Band and
an All Greene County saxophone player, as well as a member of his
school's Drama Club, Mock Trial Club, and Championship Robotics Team;
and
WHEREAS, Outside of extracurricular activities, Aidan Cohane has
served on an individual internship/obsevationship with a respected
cardiologist, and has traveled to Malta as a volunteer with the Order of
Malta Camp to work with the physically and mentally challenged; he is
also a recent Confirmant and long-time parishioner at St. Theresa's
Roman Catholic Church in Windham, New York; and
WHEREAS, Aidan Cohane's exemplary performance is reflective of his
dedication, determination and personal commitment; his achievements
stand as a hallmark of what is best in the families, schools and commu-
nities across New York State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend student-athlete Aidan Cohane upon the occasion of capturing the
2016 New York State Overall Men's Alpine Skiing Championship, and to
congratulate him for the enduring honor he has brought to the Empire
State; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Aidan Cohane.
