LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION congratulating John W. Moran, Jr. upon the occa-
sion of his designation as recipient of the 2016 Mr. Canandaigua Award
by the Canandaigua Chamber of Commerce
WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to recognize that the
quality and character of life in the communities across New York State
are enhanced by the concerned and dedicated efforts of organizations and
individuals that generously contribute to the welfare of the community
and its citizenry; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to congratu-
late John W. Moran, Jr. upon the occasion of his designation as recipi-
ent of the 2016 Mr. Canandaigua award by the Canandaigua Chamber of
Commerce, celebrated at the 106th annual dinner and membership meeting,
on Friday, January 29th, 2016, at Finger Lakes Community College, Canan-
daigua, New York; and
WHEREAS, Each year the Chamber of Commerce honors a citizen for
outstanding service to the residents of Canandaigua; candidates for this
award have demonstrated service to the greater community or its people,
over and above what can be expected of one person, in the course of
everyday living, without or with very little compensation; and
WHEREAS, Born on March 26th, 1948, John W. Moran, Jr. was raised in
Canandaigua, New York; after graduating from Canandaigua Academy in
1966, he started working at Roseland Bowl; in 1987, he purchased the
business from the Boyce family; and
WHEREAS, Recently, John W. Moran, Jr., affectionately known as Jack,
transformed the traditional bowling center into a family fun center and
subsequently was featured in a cover story in a national bowling trade
magazine; and
WHEREAS, In 1979, John W. Moran, Jr. earned his Associate's degree in
Business Management from Finger Lakes Community College (FLCC); after
graduation, he proudly served his country as a member of the United
States Army from 1966-1972, holding the title of Staff Sergeant (E-7)
and Platoon Leader; and
WHEREAS, Since 1974, Jack W. Moran, Jr. has held various positions
within the Physical Education Department at FLCC, teaching the basic
skills and techniques of the sport of bowling; for his incredible dedi-
cation to his students, he was the recipient of the 2012 CCFL/FLCC Alum-
ni Association Exceptional Service Award and in 2016, he will receive
the 2016 Distinguished Alumni Award from the college; and
WHEREAS, Moreover, from 1994-2010, Jack W. Moran, Jr. served as the
Varsity Bowling Coach at Canandaigua Academy High School; and
WHEREAS, Dedicated to the community in which he lives and works, Jack
W. Moran, Jr. has served in numerous leadership roles for several
organizations including Past Exalted Ruler of the Canandaigua Elks Lodge
No. 1844, President of the Greater Rochester, Finger Lakes, and New York
State Business Professional of America, President of the New York State
Bowling Council, Chair of the Bowlers Proprietors' Association of Ameri-
ca (BPAA) National Bowling Tournament Committee and National
Secretary/Treasurer, and Vice President, as well as President of the
BPAA; and
WHEREAS, Jack W. Moran, Jr. is also involved with the Elks Bowling
Tournament Committee Board, the Greater Rochester Area Bowling Council,
the Rochester YABA (USBC) Youth Council, Bowling Inc., Contemporary
Bowling Association Board of Directors, National Bowling Forum and the
United States Bowling Congress Board of Directors and the Rochester USBC
BA; and
WHEREAS, For his outstanding work within the bowling industry, he was
the recipient of numerous awards and accolades including the New York
State BPA Service Award, Rochester Bowling Proprietor of the Year, Bowl-
ing Proprietor Association of America/Certificate of Achievement, both
the Canandaigua Chamber of Commerce Business Tourism Award and Ontario
County Tourism Award, New York State Women's Bowling
Association/Proprietor of the Year, New York State BPA Award of Excel-
lence, Metropolitan Bowling Writers Industry Achievement Award, Bowling
Proprietors Association of America President's Medal and the Bowling
Proprietors Association of America Victor Lerner Memorial Award; and
WHEREAS, In addition, this remarkable man was inducted into the Canan-
daigua Bowling Association Hall of Fame, the Empire State USBC BA Hall
of Fame and the BPAA National Hall of Fame; and
WHEREAS, For his incredible contributions to the Canandaigua Rotary
Club, Jack W. Moran, Jr. received the Paul Harris Fellowship Award
numerous times; and
WHEREAS, With him throughout have been his wife of 40 years, Ann M.
Moran, his three devoted children, Adam, Jared, and Jaclyn and his trea-
sured grandchild, Austin, all of whom feel privileged to be a part of
his life and rejoice in his achievements; and
WHEREAS, Rare indeed is the impressive dedication shown by an individ-
ual for the benefit of others which John W. Moran, Jr. has displayed
throughout his life; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when individ-
uals of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our atten-
tion, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens of
the great State of New York; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
congratulate John W. Moran, Jr. upon the occasion of his designation as
recipient of the 2016 Mr. Canandaigua Award by the Canandaigua Chamber
of Commerce; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to John W. Moran, Jr.
