LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Dr. Jerry and Gilda Hochbaum upon the
occasion of his retirement from the Memorial Foundation for Jewish
Culture, and their move to Israel

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize and
commend those illustrious organizations and individuals of the State of
New York who distinguish themselves in their profession and in their
commitment to their family, faith, heritage and community; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Dr.
Jerry and Gilda Hochbaum upon the occasion of his retirement after many
years of distinguished service to the Memorial Foundation for Jewish
Culture, and their move to Israel; and
WHEREAS, Founded in 1965 by Nahum Goldmann with reparation funds from
the government of what was then West Germany, the Memorial Foundation
for Jewish Culture stands behind its mission to develop the social capi-
tal of the Jewish people, its communal, cultural, and professional lead-
ership, and to foster global unity within the Jewish community, includ-
ing the propagation of the Hebrew language; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Jerry Hochbaum has been a spiritual guide to the Lower
East Side branch of Agudath Israel, and has given numerous lectures on a
variety of topics; and
WHEREAS, As Executive Director, Dr. Jerry Hochbaum has faithfully
served the Memorial Foundation for Jewish Culture with intelligence and
caring dedication, continuously striving to effectively fulfill the
duties of his position; and
WHEREAS, Sincerely loved and greatly respected by all those with whom
he worked, Dr. Jerry Hochbaum will be remembered for his honesty, integ-
rity, keen sense of duty and ability to show a unique grasp of human
problems in his official acts; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Jerry Hochbaum and his wife, Gilda, have been pillars of
the Lower East Side Jewish Community throughout his life; and
WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body that when individ-
uals of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our atten-
tion, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens of
the great State of New York; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Dr. Jerry and Gilda Hochbaum upon the occasion of his retirement
after many years of distinguished service to the Memorial Foundation for
Jewish Culture, and to wish them well on their move to Israel; and be it
further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Dr. and Mrs. Jerry Hochbaum.
