LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commending Bob Dorsey upon the occasion of his
designation as a 2016 Inductee into the Auburn Alumni Hall of
Distinction, on May 6, 2016

WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to take note of and
publicly acknowledge individuals who have distinguished themselves
through their exemplary careers, accomplishments, and purposeful lives
of service to their community; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to commend
Bob Dorsey upon the occasion of his designation as a 2016 Inductee into
the Auburn Alumni Hall of Distinction, to be celebrated at an Induction
Ceremony on Friday, May 6, 2016, at the Hilton Garden Inn, Auburn, New
York; and
WHEREAS, The Auburn Alumni Hall of Distinction was established in
2012, by the Auburn Education Foundation to recognize, honor and cele-
brate graduates who have distinguished themselves through outstanding
academic, professional, or civic achievements and to inspire current
students to pursue a path towards personal success; and
WHEREAS, A man of singular merit, Bob Dorsey, Auburn High Class of
1976, has continually demonstrated tremendous competence, extraordinary
intelligence and diligent leadership in his unwavering service to both
his community and his profession and consequently has been selected for
this most prestigious honor; and
WHEREAS, Bob Dorsey grew up in Auburn, New York, and played both ice
hockey and soccer at Auburn High School; and
WHEREAS, Upon graduating, Bob Dorsey earned his Bachelor's degree in
Fine Art Painting from Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT); he
furthered his education by obtaining his Master's degree in Illustration
from Syracuse University; and
WHEREAS, After receiving his degrees, Bob Dorsey became a staff illus-
trator at The American Greetings Card Co. and later at the Cleveland
Clinic Foundation; in 1982, he began a successful freelance illustration
business where he continues to work today; and
WHEREAS, Bob Dorsey's exceptional art work has appeared in numerous
books, magazines and advertising campaigns; some of his well-known
corporate clients include Coors Brewing Co., Pepsi, Time Inc., General
Electric, Citibank, Eveready, and Trump International, as well as Fish-
er-Price; and
WHEREAS, In addition, Bob Dorsey works with several renowned publish-
ing clients such as Disney Press, The National Wildlife Federation, and
Scholastic Inc.; and
WHEREAS, A sports enthusiast, Bob Dorsey is best known for the numer-
ous portraits that he has completed for the National Baseball Hall of
Fame in Cooperstown, New York, including Mickey Mantle, Roberto
Clemente, Jackie Robinson and Willie Mays; he also created memorable
sports paintings for Syracuse University including the centennial foot-
ball poster and has completed a total of 224 portraits for the Greater
Syracuse Sports Hall of Fame; and
WHEREAS, In 1990, Bob Dorsey accepted a full time teaching position at
his alma mater, RIT and was promoted to Full Professor in 2011; through-
out his tenure, he has served as the Illustration Program Chair for 14
years and taught for a semester in Dubrovnik, Croatia; and
WHEREAS, For his extraordinary illustrations, Bob Dorsey has been the
recipient of numerous awards and accolades such as an Award of Excel-
lence from Beckett Sports Publications as well as from the American
Publishing Corporation; his work has been seen in exhibitions throughout

the country including at the society of Illustrators Annual Exhibit in
New York City; and
WHEREAS, Currently, Bob Dorsey lives in a century old house in Roches-
ter, New York, where he enjoys traveling, playing golf and staying
active with a variety of physical activities; and
WHEREAS, With him throughout have been his children, Molly, Emily and
Brian, and his two grandchildren, all of whom feel privileged to be a
part of his life and rejoice in his achievements; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when individ-
uals of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our atten-
tion, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens of
the great State of New York; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend Bob Dorsey upon the occasion of his designation as a 2016 Induc-
tee into the Auburn Alumni Hall of Distinction, on May 6, 2016; and be
it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Bob Dorsey.
