LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commending Tom Lewis upon the occasion of his
designation as a 2016 Inductee into the Auburn Alumni Hall of
Distinction, on May 6, 2016
WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to take note of and
publicly acknowledge individuals who have distinguished themselves
through their exemplary careers, accomplishments, and purposeful lives
of service to their community; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to commend
Tom Lewis upon the occasion of his designation as a 2016 Inductee into
the Auburn Alumni Hall of Distinction, to be celebrated at an Induction
Ceremony on Friday, May 6, 2016, at the Hilton Garden Inn, Auburn, New
York; and
WHEREAS, The Auburn Alumni Hall of Distinction was established in
2012, by the Auburn Education Foundation to recognize, honor and cele-
brate graduates who have distinguished themselves through outstanding
academic, professional, or civic achievements and to inspire current
students to pursue a path towards personal success; and
WHEREAS, A man of singular merit, Tom Lewis has continually demon-
strated tremendous competence, extraordinary intelligence and diligent
leadership in his unwavering service to both his community and his
profession and consequently has been selected for this most prestigious
honor; and
WHEREAS, A resident of Auburn, New York, Tom Lewis graduated from
Merrimack College, and became a licensed Certified Public Accountant;
today, he holds the position of Chief Financial Officer of Johnston
Paper Company, a food service and cleaning solutions distributor in
Auburn, New York; and
WHEREAS, Tom Lewis began his 35-year Accounting and Finance career as
a Junior Partner at Dermondy, Burke & Brown CPAs; he then worked at GTE
Sylvania, and finally became employed at Johnston Paper Company in 1986;
and
WHEREAS, Tom Lewis was instrumental in helping Johnston Paper Company
grow and become one of the top leading distributors in New York State;
as a result of his hard work, he was the named the 2013 Financial Execu-
tive of the Year by the CENTRAL NEW YORK BUSINESS JOURNAL which is given
to financial professionals in the Central New York region for their
outstanding performance in their roles as corporate financial stewards;
and
WHEREAS, Committed to the community in which he lives and works, Tom
Lewis has been a vital member of several Boards of Directors including
the E. John Gavras Center, Cayuga Strategic Solution (CSS), Cayuga Coun-
ty College Foundation, and Cayuga Economic Development Agency (CEDA);
and
WHEREAS, In addition, Tom Lewis volunteers his time and energy to the
American Red Cross and the Auburn Ice Hawks where he also served as a
coach; he also holds the positions of Chairman and co-Chair for the
United Way of Cayuga County campaign; and
WHEREAS, For the past two years, Tom Lewis has held the title of Trea-
surer of the Knights of Columbus, and has served as a Eucharistic Minis-
ter at Sacred Heart Church for the last five years; and
WHEREAS, With him throughout have been his wife, the former Jean
Hogan, his children, Sean, Ryan, Brendan, and Maggie, as well as the
late Christian, all of whom feel privileged to be a part of his life and
rejoice in his achievements; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when individ-
uals of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our atten-
tion, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens of
the great State of New York; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend Tom Lewis upon the occasion of his designation as a 2016 Induc-
tee into the Auburn Alumni Hall of Distinction, on May 6, 2016; and be
it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Tom Lewis.
